"Parallel Dreams" has become one of my favorite Loreena McKennitt records. Strangely, it was only after hearing Loreena play "Samain Night" live that I gave it another try (for some reason when I listened to it for the first time years ago I didn't take to it), and I absolutely love it now. I'm convinced that I'll never be able to listen to "Annachie Gordon" without crying (it captures the sadness of what so many women have gone through re: forced marriages--i.e. legal rape--throughout history). "Breaking the Silence" is another favorite, and of course there's "Samain Night" (hearing it live is amazing but the record version is almost as soul-piercing). Like "Elemental," the instrumentals are largely acoustic, which is nice. Anyway, give this record a try--you won't regret it.
Lorena's voice is excellent (as usual) and her blending and comparing the styles and myths of different cultures is interesting. In some of her later works she delves deeper into different cultures, but this is a more direct if somewhat shallower immersion into other cultures with a more direct comparison with the Celtic/ American traditions and styles. I like it a LOT!
This is my 2nd favorite Loreena McKennitt album/CD, 2nd only to Elemental. If you like Loreena, you'll love this CD. If you're not familiar with her beautiful music, this CD will be a good introduction.
I have quite a few albums of Loreena McKennit and it always amazed me how her music can reach out to you. I want to say that her music creates an atmosphere that appeals to many.
Her music is flows through the body to touch the soul. I have NOT heard another who can sing as beautifully or play the harp with such intensity. I have thought for years that this one song of hers was my favorite but honestly all her music are my favorites.
Her music tells the listener a story that flows through her voice and music. I once read that she has researched old folklore and implemented those legends from long ago into her music. It is just amazing.
I love this artist although i knew nothing about her until I watched a film and her music was played throughout the film--couldnt wait to find out who was singing the song---Mystic Dream----Loreena McKennit, I am now in the process of buying all her albums -each one is wonderful--haunting and dreamlike so much so -it's addictive
I love this album from the first play she has such a great voice that just keeps you enjoying her singing all the time I now have seven of her albums in all and nun of them disappoint at all I do hope that she will still keeps recording more albums soon I do hope she is still singing as it would be such a sham if she isn't
