This would be the last Queen album recorded while Freddie Mercury was alive. Those that knew him best knew that his condition was deteriorating and that time was not on his side. Yet somehow, despite all of this, Freddie put in a commendable performance. There is a certain amount of expected introspection, as evidenced by the heartbreaking ballad These Are The Days Of Our Lives, but also a surprising amount of whimsy with I'm Going Slightly Mad and Delilah, written by Freddie about his favorite cat. Innuendo, the first and title track, is a stunning masterpiece featuring flamenco guitar by Yes' Steve Howe, while Don't Try So Hard seems an eerie and haunting ode to letting go. But in my opinion the album's masterstroke is its final track, the chilling and powerful The Show Must Go On. In an interview with Brian May, the band wasn't entirely sure Freddie would be able to pull off the vocals, as his condition continued to steadily worsen. But though he had difficulty standing and was otherwise physically weak, Freddie belted out the words with a power and virtuosity that sends chills up my spine every single time I hear it. Though not perfect, with a few less than stellar tracks filling the space of the almost hour-long album, Innuendo manages to capture some of the eclectic mix of sounds that highlighted Queen's earlier works. In the end, it is a good album and one I listen to often, certainly more so than its predecessor The Miracle or its successor Made In Heaven, which was a sort of posthumous tribute made from recordings of Freddie while he was alive. As the last of the line, it is worth owning, but as a Queen album it is worth listening to as well. Sadly, nine months after this album was released, Freddie Mercury succumbed to pneumonia brought on by the decimation of his immune system by AIDS. The world was a better place for his presence.

I had never bought a Queen album before. I didn't know anything much about the band except for their hits and I had heard quite a bit about the enigmatic Freddie Mercury. Well I've been trying to branch out a bit lately so I just randomly bought a bunch of Queen albums last week. The first one that I listened to was "A Night At The Opera". Very good album. I liked it a lot. Then I put "Innuendo" in. It blew me away right away. Wow. I own a lot of albums. I have a CD collection of about 200, and I don't have very many bad albums in my collection at all. So this means a lot when I say this: I already consider this to be one of the best albums I own. When I learned that this was released the same year Freddie died, it made it even more powerful. I mean here you have this guy who's near his death bed giving one of the greatest rock performances ever.
Some people have said that this is a dark album. I find it to be very uplifting! A few of the songs are really reflective, but the overall feel of the album is something like, "Don't let it get to you!" The only song I don't like very much is "The Hitman". The rest are just crazy good. I see one reviewer doesn't like Delilah. Well I think that's one of the strongest songs on the album. Go figure. The vocals on it are hot! It's a love song about his cat. I read that Freddie lived alone with lots of pets. He loved his cat. Really touching if you ask me that he could find the love in a simple animal. You really get the feeling that he was making the most of his life.
I just love this album so much. If you consider yourself even a mild rock fan, you have to buy this.

Having just recently learned that QUEEN was much more than a pompous arena rock band (WE WILL ROCK YOU, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, etc.), I have bought several of QUEENS albums. INNUENDO just might be the best of the bunch (with an argument being made that MADE IN HEAVEN could fill that role.) The album is a roller coaster of emotions being powered by the contrasting differences in styles brought by and within each band member. But having grown up on classic rock, my tastes have changed dramatically from the days when FOREIGNER and JOURNEY were among my favorite bands into a far more introspective and intellectual man. With that being said, I simply adore the works such as THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES (written by a drummer no less) and other songs of such poignancy as to be almost tearful when considering the tragedy that was overwhelming Freddie Mercury at the time.
Some of the songs are overwrought QUEEN songs, but then it wouldn't be a QUEEN album without such. From the band that created stadium rock (see the forementioned songs), I am simply amazed at the wonderful works that never became hits. This album exemplifies everything that was great about QUEEN.
This is... a DAMN GOOD ALBUM! Its just a shame that such great music lost in popularity to the contrived hair metal, grunge, ska, rap and all of the other s*** that sold millions of records while Freddie was suffering... and since.
I am ashamed that I did not buy this album when it was first released. But at least I have it now... This is... A DAMN GOOD ALBUM!!!!

The music by Queen on this album is some of their best work. On several tracks they went back to some of their harder sound from their earlier days, and If you are a fan of that time in their careers then you need to own this. However, I was not very happy when I opened up my package. I immediately realized, looking at the song listings on the back, that the vinyl did not include the bonus tracks that came with the MP3 rip. In addition to that, several of the tracks are, "edited for vinyl", apparently in order to get them all onto one disc. Then I put the record on. At that time I had some fairly bright light shining on the vinyl, and, to my surprise, I saw distinct fingerprints. In fact, it was very clear that someone had grabbed it and left three finger print smudges on one side and their thumb print on the other. This was supposed to be a brand new record. I have ordered vinyl before on Amazon and this is the first time I've seen something like this. I spent some time cleaning it, but I should never have had to do that to something sold as new. The music on this album is definitely five-star worthy, but only gets four from me because of this.

I'm assuming if you're interested in buying this you don't need a music review! It goes without saying that Innuendo is Queen at their best. So, just to let you know that this is a quality product, no flaws in the audio, or the packaging. I really liked the bonus tracks too.

Vinyl Review for Innuendo
Reviewed in Australia on June 28, 2020
Vinyl had some pops and surface noise towards the end of Side 2. The sound of this Vinyl was not too bad though and the artwork is lovely in the big format. I have given 3 Stars not for the content (this is a great Queen Album) but for the pressing overall.
