Clannad has always been a favorite of mine and to be able to have their music on my computer, too is wonderful!

This was a gift for my husband. He loves it.

This CD is at the top of my "guilty pleasures" playlist. I've been told by Irish trad purists that Clannad is not Irish trad. Don't care, I still LOVE this album.

This album takes you into the tradition of Ireland: with the Gaelic pieces, sung so beautifully by Maire; with the mysterious Newgrange; with the Fairy Queen. Then there are the more pop-ish songs like Passing Time and I See Red which are just fun.
When Clannad's music is playing I feel like the sounds surround me, calming and happy.
Enjoy the weaving of Irish folk with a New Age feel and the mystery of the Magical Ring.

In a career spanning over thirty years Clannad has risen from a family trio performing in their Fathers' bar in Gweedore parish, Donegal to a group of five (with the addition of two uncles) who have consistently impressed an evergrowing worldwide fanbase. Who would have ever thought a little Irish folk group singing primarily in Gaelic would achieve such notoriety and fame. If the truth be told, they've probably saved their native language from extinction.
Of all their albums/CD's, there are quite a few, 'Magical Ring' was the first Clannad album I ever bought and to this day remains my undisputed favorite. It's absolutely magical, the perfect blending of voices and music, it captures the very heart and soul of Ireland and the mythical landscape it's famous for. From track 1 - Theme from Harry's Game - to the sweet melancholy of track 5 - Coinleach Glas an Fhomhair - and track 9 - The Fairy Queen, you'll feel something stir inside of you that no other music has ever touched before.
Simply the most haunting, harmonious sound you'll ever hear.

The album MAGICAL RING by Clannad is essential for anyone curious about Irish/Celtic music. It is the first Celtic CD I have purchased (though I also own Clannad's "Pastpresent" compilation, which is more pop than Celtic). Magical Ring captures Clannad at a high point in their career, when they still had a semi-traditional folk sound, but were adding just enough modern touches to their music to give it an edge. Thus, they are able to maintain their integrity while still making their music accessible to a wider audience. A good example is the track "Passing Time", which has a very Irish-sounding melody added to a modern pop hook, with synthesizers unobtrusively added to the mix. On a few songs, Clannad serves up traditional Irish folk without any pop touches at all, as on the song "Coinleach Glas An Fhomhair", which is sung in Gaelic. No matter what language they use, Clannad's music is filled with haunting melodies and rich vocal harmonies, which give the album a mystical atmosphere. It is easy to get swept up in the mood of music, and when the CD ends, I usually end up pressing the repeat button and taking the journey all over again. This masterpiece album is a great introduction to Irish music, and captures Clannad at their most focused and creative! I will definitely be buying more from this genre-bending, barrier-breaking band.

While I don't listen to this album as much as say "Macalla", this is still one of my favorite Clannad albums. Here they (mostly) successfully transitioned from being a traditional Irish folk act to carving their own unique niche in the musical landscape -- undoubtably the founders of the whole "new age" music genre.
In particular, there are some very interesting tracks that really stick with you -- "NewGrange" is one of those songs that send shivers down your spine. The often-heard "Theme from Harry's Game" is simply beautiful. No other word describes it. There's a reason it's been used so often in commercials and movie soundtracks.

1 copy damaged another fine YMMV!

I came across Clannad through watching Patriot Games. Specifically the scene ft. the track Harrys Game where the IRA splinter cell leader initiates the break away from the main organisation via use of a double barrelled shotgun. The song is uber dreamy and ethereal and filled with melancholy. I always wanted a clean copy of this record as my og is worn to bits. I found this recent repress and give it a whirl. The first copy is really good... GZ media runouts often scare and a very static riddled printed inner isnt ideal but it is heavy, flat and quiet (once washed as covered in bits initially). It even sounds good to my ears... whoever Bazza@Alchemy is he cut a good record. So, knowing i will likely play this record alot i bought a second copy and sadly this copy is lightly but audibly damaged. A small but deep enough scratched area as pictured causes rotational pops from the Pick IT Pro needle for a couple of distracting minutes. I suspect abit of vinyl break off or just the sheer thin white bits have rubbed it up the wrong way. It will have to go back. So.... YMMV as ever but a good clean copy is a 5 star but a damaged press is a 1 star, hence 3 lol. Also the printed inners all come seem split but thankfully both the main jackets survived!

I Clannad, considerati fra i più pedissequi nella ripresa della tradizione irlandese, non perdono lo smalto pur fondendosi con atmosfere pop, dando vita a Harry's Theme, parte di una colonna sonora. Molto bello

Beautiful and Magical Clannad

This was a second hand buy, arrived safely in a plastic envelope as pictured from musicMagpie" The case is slightly scuffed as expected from normal usage, and to be honest If I'd bought it when the cd was released..it would look the same.
The cd plays like new, and I'm so happy, as I had Magical Ring previously on vinyl, and now all these years later in my possession again, this time in compact disc format.
Sometimes I buy second hand from Amazon, and so far have never had a problem with this. And this is pure Clannad, mostly the songs are sung in that magical Irish Gaelic, inspiring and so melodic, this is the Clannad album I'd reccomend to any potential, and ardent fan of Clannad, I promise you..you will not be disappointed!

Not just Harry's Game
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 4, 2022
I bought this for the theme from Harry's Game but, after repeated listens have come to really like the album as a whole. As well as the aforementioned track, I will always associate Clannad with the 1980s Robin of Sherwood program which they did at least the title song for. It's gentle but engaging music; not quite "silence coloured in" as aussie metal head comedian Steven Hughes once said of Enya's music (he likes it) but it's very relaxing.

CD was packaged well and received with no issues and as promised. Fantastic album from when I was young and love it. I'm still loving having CD's even though I have music online.
