Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Recorded previously on other albums, this is the best recording to date. It's out there on YOUTUBE, where the background singing is present, but the CD is spooky good with the sting picking. Listen to it!
Chris Isaak has always sounded like what would happen if Roy Orbison and Bryan Ferry had a baby that looked as handsome as the young Elvis Presley. His voice is more beautiful that Orbison's voice, which is quite an accomplishment. He reaches the high register like Orbison but remains totally masculine all the way to the top of the note. In "Dancin'" he has a touch of the nihilistic in his tone, reminding me of the frightfully beautiful work of Bryan Ferry. In "Blue HOtel" the sexual passion comes through like the crying wail of Elvis, the master of mixing Black Blues with Western. In "Blue Spanish Sky" the pain in his voice made me question, how does this young man know this much disappointment in love?
I remember the first time I ever heard his haunting, brooding masculine voice and saw the Bruce Weber fashion photographs of this new James Dean for the 90's. He has remained consistently strong. He writes most of his own music and his performance style has been refined to be as sharp as a ice pick in an angry lover's hands. The striking guitar mastery balances every song, carrying the listener on the smoke of dying love's embers. The CD ends with a guitar instrumental of "Wicked Game" from David Lynch's "Wild At Heart" film.
This CD is packed with top work by an enduring talent. It does not disappoint even 14 years after it was first issued.
How do you even begin to write a review of Wicked Game? Or for that matter anything that is written by, sung by, thought of or covered by Chris Isaak. Wicked Game is the ringtone on my phone. It is really interesting when in a crowd of all ages of people the comments are " great song", " I love that song" I have even had people ask me to hit my play button so they can hear it again. I am a 67 year old lady but I still like to crank the volume in my car. If you live in Johnson County Kansas, and a Signal Red 2012 Sportage pulls along beside you with Chris Isaak crooning at (I am sure) illegal decibels that is me. I get so many thumbs up at stop lights, then they pace beside me to hit the next stop light. Yes I love all of his music. Even his Christmas album is great with Pretty Paper, You gotta be good etc... If you have never listened to Isaak, buy this CD, then get your wallet out cause you are gonna be buying as many as you can get. Donna Jenkins
This is a great collection of 11 songs from Chris Isaak's first three albums, plus a bonus instrumental "Wicked Game" track. Each of the tracks showcases the trademark Chris Isaak daunting, sultry, haunting, and heartfelt style. Every song is packed with distinctive, powerful emotion. There is always a sense of urgency in Chris's voice. Much of the music is kind of like a unique, Spanish-influenced, rockabilly. This is a great set of early songs and works as an excellent introduction to the genius of Chris Isaak. It is a definite must own for any true music fan. For the newly initiated, there is also the "Best of Chris Isaak" CD. It complements this Wicked Game set with additional, more recent, songs. Enjoy!
This CD arrived quicker than I thought it would. It arrived in perfect condition. The sound quality is excellent & I really like the collection of songs. I’ve listened to this CD many times.
