The nice thing about this compilation is that some songs are taken from the TV-series "a prince among islands". These songs are easier if you are nbot into the celtic style music. It also have this great track "Alasdair Mhic Colla" and the more traditional styled tracks. Capercaillie is easy to like and combines traditional songs and pop in a way, so the pop does not in any way take over the music. The girl who sings is purely amazing.
An excellent album. Karen's voice is sublime (Not the first time I've bought this album but loaned it out and it's not been returned!!) I was living in Scotland when this was released contemporainiosly with the TV series. Both were brilliant at the time and still are. 'Fear A Bhata' was never better sung, this song was made for Karen's voice.
This is the most memorable haunting Gaelic music ever produced by Capercaillie for the 1980’s British Channel 4 TV Series of the same name which told the story of the Scottish Clearances and resulting global exodus.
Lead singer Karen Matheson was described by Sean Connery as having a throat surely touched by God and you can hear her at her peak in this Album with the very best of their songs.
Heard this beautiful music in a little museum of local life, in Gairloch, Wester Ross, NW Scotland - it added to the experience and insight I gained of a hard life lived there over the last 3,000 years or so. Had to buy it and the gentleman on the desk kindly gave me the details, as they did not have any copies left for sale.
