Totally awesome movie. One of my favorites that I can watch over and over. This is one of the few great sci-fi / horror movies that people take seriously. Ridley Scott is a great director, and this is one of his best movies. Sigourney Weaver is excellent in this movie. If you are into science fiction, horror, or old classic films this is a must watch. Considering that this film is from 1979 the special effects, the ship, and the alien itself all look pretty good and have held up well over the years.

This new director's cut adds a few additional / extended scenes that tell a little more detail into the story. The movie looks really nice in HD. I would highly recommend. Also, if you like this one, you should check out "Aliens" and "Prometheus". Aliens is the sequel by James Cameron that is equally awesome.

It just gets better and better... I saw this movie in the theaters ages ago and it was awesome then and it is still awesome decades later. I re-watch it every now and again as it is an absolute classic. Ridley Scott has made transcendent films (Blade Runner is an all-time masterpiece) and this is among his best and is his first great film. The atmosphere is so dense you can cut it with a knife; the story is simple and taut and well paced. The script is minimal and focused with just enough back story and character development; plot devices, background information, character exposition is never heavy-handed or obtrusive; the dialogue is natural and the cast give great performances. One of the top 2 or 3 films in this genre and one that is unlikely to be matched anytime soon, unless Scott and one-up himself, which we're hoping he does in 2017 with another installment of the Alien(s) franchise. Can't wait to see it.

Literally so frightening, it will give you "chest pains!" You have to overlook the dated electronics, devices, though they are incredibly accurate considering how they envisioned the technology when the movie was made. The best part of the movie is the story...something grossly missing from many modern day movies. It really helps to see Alien if one is to fully appreciate the continuing story line. I rate very few movies 5 stars, The actors/director/writers in this movie, in my opinion, tell one of the best science fiction stories to date.

If you have the original Alien blu-ray and was planing on getting this new version save your money now don't wast your time. They just re packaged the same old blu-ray disc with Some H.R. Giger artwork cards and a mini alien
graphic novel which you can get on Amazon.com. Fox really scamed people out on this They couldn't even make the effort to include anything from the big box set. It is not worth the money. Now if you just want the movie I Recommend just get the plain Alien [Blu-ray] $16.19 that's on Amazon now or get the Alien Anthology.

While I'm not a terribly huge fan of horror, this film hits the marks. While some effects are dated, the film still manages to offer some incredible surprises even to those that know the "big scare" that occurs about 1/3 of the way through the film. Beautifully shot, intensely suspenseful, and able to have me scream bloody murder thrice, I'd say that Alien deserves it's place as one of the greatest films of all time.

I do not like Ridley Scott. There, I said it. I'm not one for his bravado. HOWEVER, this movie was excellent from start to finish. Taking quite a lot of cues from 2001: A Space Oddyssey, this movie perfectly utilizes silence and space in order to sustain the tension the viewer is feeling. The scares were gruesome and the deaths were super wild, but what makes this movie a classic isn't what the alien looked like or how it killed others, but how it remained an unseen and ever-present entity that could strike at any moment and the unfortunate crew of the Nostromo were all too easy prey for this angel of death.

I enjoyed this monster movie as a kid and my 10 year old just discovered it. The creepy space monster doesn't disappoint with his drooling and two rows of teeth. Slow story but at 10 years of age we used the fast forward to get to the good parts. As an adult, the second Alien movie is much better but this first Alien movie sets up the whole series. It was a good, old fashioned monster movie.

Do I really need to explain why this may be one of the greatest movies ever made? It is definitely my favorite move, and holds great nostalgia for me, because it was the first rated R movie I ever saw. I will never forget the first time I saw this, I really hope the coming generations will truly appreciate this movie as well. If you haven't seen it, stop reading reviews and go watch it right now. Overall rating: 11/10 would poop my pants while no one can hear me scream again....and again.
