Despite a typically haphazard plot, Highlander: Endgame is a marked improvement over previous sequels. This is the "torch-passing" chapter, in which the Immortal Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) passes his life force to his heroic brother, Duncan (Adrian Paul, star of the 1993-96 Highlander TV series). These appealing stars make a fine onscreen duo, and Paul is a terrific choice to keep the franchise alive--strikingly handsome but possessing enough gravitas to make the prospect of future sequels unexpectedly promising. The movie is incoherent to the uninitiated, but established fans will be reasonably impressed by Endgame's cagey mix of romance, swordplay, and history-spanning action. While the movie's chaotic construction is regrettable, the frequent battles (including dazzling work by Honk Kong action star Donnie Yen) are adequately impressive, and Douglas Milsome--cinematographer of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket--ensures that every scene is strikingly photographed. All in all, Highlander: Endgame is surprisingly worthwhile. --Jeff Shannon

A Solid Continuation of the TV Show

Initially I didn't like Endgame, but after more thought and repeated viewing I found this continuation of the TV Show to actually be quite good. Acting as both an ending and new beginning, the story and Jacob Kell tie in the closest to the original movie than the other sequels. The big selling point however is the relationship between Duncan and Connor and how it ends that gives the story emotional weight. Duncan, who considers Connor his brother, mentor, and teacher has always looked up to and admired Connor more than anyone else. Connor on the other hand has grown tired and weary of "the game" and knows the truth of what ultimately must happen in order to stop Jacob Kell. There are other elements in this movie as well that make it worthwhile. The slower pacing and superb soundtrack help give the story a darker tone than previous installments, and a subplot involving a former lover of Duncan's called Kate adds an interesting love/hate dynamic to the overall story. Definitely worth a look

Kinda like the first one- very good despite its quirks. Not the first time Connor and Duncan team up; the first episode of the tv series had Connor in it to kick things off and give credibility to the show. Here, their lives intersect once more, but it's for Connor to pass the torch to Duncan. I won't give away the ending for those of you reading this who have never seen it, but I will say that you will see Connor at what is probably the lowest point in his centuries-old life, definitely a different man than you're used to seeing (assuming you saw the previous movies, of course). Good that they brought Joe and Methos into it as well. This one is much better than the one that followed it, so enjoy!
