Product Description

Winner of 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, A Beautiful Mind is directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard and produced by long-time partner and collaborator, Academy Award winner Brian Grazer. A Beautiful Mind stars Russell Crowe in an astonishing performance as brilliant mathematician John Nash, on the brink of international acclaim when he becomes entangled in a mysterious conspiracy. Now only his devoted wife (Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly) can help him in this powerful story of courage, passion and triumph.

A Beautiful Mind manages to twist enough pathos out of John Nash's incredible life story to redeem an at-times goofy portrayal of schizophrenia. Russell Crowe tackles the role with characteristic fervor, playing the Nobel prize-winning mathematician from his days at Princeton, where he developed a groundbreaking economic theory, to his meteoric rise to the cover of Forbes magazine and an MIT professorship, and on through to his eventual dismissal due to schizophrenic delusions. Of course, it is the delusions that fascinate director Ron Howard and, predictably, go astray. Nash's other world, populated as it is by a maniacal Department of Defense agent (Ed Harris), an imagined college roommate who seems straight out of Dead Poets Society, and an orphaned girl, is so fluid and scriptlike as to make the viewer wonder if schizophrenia is really as slick as depicted. Crowe's physical intensity drags us along as he works admirably to carry the film on his considerable shoulders. No doubt the story of Nash's amazing will to recover his life without the aid of medication is a worthy one, his eventual triumph heartening. Unfortunately, Howard's flashy style is unable to convey much of it. --Fionn Meade

Easily makes my Top 10 movies of all time. I was fortunate to have also read the book version as well. What fascinates me both in the movie and in real life, is how genius is often juxtaposed with greatness. With John Nash, it's brought to extreme. But you can see hints of that craziness in people like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk.

Portrayed by Russell Crowe, I was haunted for many years by his portrayal of a man who had fallen so far down into the abyss of insanity...who then somehow harnessed his genius to ignore the insane part of himself and go on to live a successful, quasi normal life. It inspired me to break out of some my own hang-ups to go on do and experience things I'd never previously dreamed I could be involved with, both in the business world and in my family.

what a treat. I love films that not only entertain but also give me some bits of info i would never find otherwise. The film did just what I like --it lead me in one direction only to turn me around facing another. The depiction of mental illness was a bit odd but easy to go along with because it was done in such detail. Also thought the mid century was very well depicted. This is a movie that I will remember-- a unique story based on a remarkable person.

Just one of the best movies of all time . I am partial since I lived a stones throw from where the movie was filmed and met the real Late John Nash at a Dinner in his honer years back . when a friend customer of mine performed played at the dinner .
The acting is superb first time I viewed it I did not know they the actors were not real till he gets committed. I mean they are so convincing Russell Crowe shines as well in his part as the late John Nash . the story is of that makes you sad ,fills you with joy, butterfly's in the stomach as times and laughing on the floor 14 minutes into the movie with some of the rudest comments I have herd ever that only Crowe could pull off .
A must see . I bought it I have it down loaded on my Kindle I look at it often /listen to it taking the bus here in TX> where I now live .
A wonderful Tribute to a great man and Nobel prize winner
John Nash and his wife may they both rest / find peace

I'm not sure my opinion about "A Beautiful Mind" accurately reflects how the average person would view this movie. I thought it was well-acted and directed, but ultimately, I just didn't enjoy the story they had to tell. I liked it even less when I realized that key aspects of the plot that actually made it bearable were not true at all. It was simply too bleak to be considered entertainment. I know that life can be difficult and that sometimes people are tormented far beyond what the average person can endure. I don't really want to see a movie about that. This film tried (and failed) to inspire me. Ultimately, all it did was depress me.

Russell Crowe is one of the best actors of our time, and truly did this movie justice. Further this was a very enticing story, Quite frankly, I do not give a rip that this movie "left out" some of the more negative aspects of the main character and his wife. No one is perfect, and I am supposing that in order to be able to tell this story their might have been some restrictions.

As for the mental condition of this man, how can one say that his problem would not be as depicted here. There are no rules for mental illness, nor does it come in a package.

There is a possibility that this movie just might help us some of us to better understand how it is to suffer such a dilemma. It may also be an encouragement for one and all, to take care of who we are. Some of what we become is environmental and some is innate, or inherent, yet what we do with what we have is most telling. Someone like this poor character, whether biographically on target or not, gives us hope that we can, as a people, with understanding, medical progress, and individual determination, lessen the ignorance and/or loss of hope in families who are faced with such trying situations, as well as for those who watch.

I saw this movie for the first time when it came out at the theater. I was so moved by the story and Nash's triumphant over a great disability that I sat in the theater through all the credit because i was so teary eyed, I was embarrassed to get up and walk out.
It's not a biography. The writer took a lot of liberty with Nash's own story and that's made clear in reviews and by the director and writer themselves. But much of what was added was to give a story of hope and understanding, to people suffering from Nash's mental illness, and to those who live with people affected with it.
it's a terrific story of a fellow (genius as he was) who chose to overcome a great dibilitating sickness, for the love of his wife.
And the Nash Equilibrium that this genius gave us has been pivotal in many great decisions made in my life time.
What I saw this time in the second viewing is that his Governing Dynamics can really be simplified by saying "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
I'm sure I'll watch it again in the future. it makes me see how petty most of my life's challenges are.
