This is the only T-Rex album that I ever listened to; so I wouldn't know if they ever did better or not. I can say that this album was really a hot item; back when it came out. All the little babes loved it, and the big poster of Mr Bolen graced the bedroom wall of many a love sick teen age girl.

But back to the music, This is a fun, mostly happy romp of an album with mostly bare bones rock/pop songs that make you want to sing along, even dance. Bolen was not a great guitar soloist; but he was an excellent rhythm guitarist who obviously had listened to a few Chuck Berry tunes and copped a few licks. And he was a master songwriter of Pop and Funky rock. He employed very interesting song lyrics full of suggestive and confusing metaphors, He used many different and innovative rhythyms and percussion to create infectiously GROOVY tunes. His sound on this album was unique , I've never heard anything quite like it. About the only artists I can compare him to were David Bowie and Donovan when he was in a more reflective mood.

The contributions of Turtles/Zappa vocalists Flo & Eddie really add a wonderful, ironic counterpoint to Bolens low register vocals. Bolen was a good singer but did not often stretch his voice into the upper register; he relied on his innate sex appeal and spice it up with a lot of growls and sighs that are very tastefully done. The guy had sex appeal in spades, and it shone through his vocals and rhythmns.

This album is a Pop rock gem which is still relevant and doesn't sound dated like so many of the more adventurous efforts of the time. I believe you could take some young musicians and re-release most of these songs; and it could still be potentially a hit. Except the psychedelic inspired lyrics might not work with todays youth. But then again, maybe they would. All told, this is an excellent effort by a creative young man who was trying to shed his Hippie/Flower Child persona and create a new, electric image. ANd it succeeds beautifully.

I've always liked Bolan's songs but have previously only had compilations. Even though I like most of the songs on these collections I rarely played them because as often happens the songs did not fit together well for me.
EW works really well as a whole and is a great listen in its entirety. I have listened to it loud and it ROCKS, then at lesser volume it works well too, with Bolans vocal stylings coming over well. This is a real 'album' that fits together so well with each song complimenting the others and while there is a definite overall sound there is also great variety within it. Interested in T.Rex? Start here. TIP Burn a disc without the extra tracks (burn them onto a separate disc if you like) as the album as it originally stood needs no adornment good though the additions are.

I'm slowly working my way to owning the 500 best albums by Rolling Stone magazine. I don't love everything on their list, but so far I have purchased many cd's. Electric Warrior was listed as #160. I still have many more to go. Before I purchased the cd, I sampled some of the songs. After I received the cd and listened to it in it's entirety I was able to appreciate the music more. It's better than I expected. You can't go wrong with this cd if you love rock music.

This was the breakthrough album and why it does not get 5stars is because Bolan is settling into the comfort Glam-Rock mode and some of the songs are simply boring. However all the extras Like Woodland Bop and the Magnificent " The King of the Mountain Cometh" alone justify the buy of this extended album. The Interview is a bit "kitsch" also in my point of view but Bolan fans will love it.

OK. I personnaly think "Bang A Gong" is one of the absolutely greatest three minutes in history...sleezy, sexy, and oh, so perfect! Suprise! The whole of the album delivers on that promise and produces swagger enough for all! Glam? Yeah, we got it. Damned great rock 'n roll? Nothing is better. Necessary.

Fantastic album. I have a few copies in my collection, all different,in a weird and wonderful way. I got this xmas '72. It is a truly awesome record, which, this one is the best,as you've got the repro poster, and the non-lp's tracks, also, round it off with an interview with Michael Cuscuna, which on it's original Reprise release is incedibly rare. Easily the best version of T.Rex's finest Lp,as a four-piece band. Colin Allen Dec.27 2010
