- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2024Great date flick! Watched this for the second or third time but first with my girlfriend. We both love latin dance and seeing the kids and their love of dance was a sweet experience to share.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2021If only all documentaries could be so uplifting. I loved watching this. I just felt good seeing these kiddos, many underprivileged, have such a great cultural opportunity. I think programs like this would help "normalize" our current youth culture that seems in a bit of a strange, and unreal warp (with major mental health issues and a lack of strong/solid identity). Eventually it will all get worked out. But we need more opportunities for our youth to develop talents, to develop girl/boy relationships and cooperation, and to develop discipline. It was so much fun to watch the dancing competitions. The teams were all great, but the indigo team was very obviously deserving of the championship. Whoever helped manage their program seemed to do an amazing job of unifying the team, down to coordinated outfits. I can't help but wonder if some of the dancers on that team came with previous experience... what talent!
Congratulations to all the schools who worked so hard and participated, and the wonderful leadership that gave them an unforgettable and life enhancing opportunity! Bless you all. Thanks to those who saw the story and made this documentary.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2023It is such a delight watching these young kids learn such an unusual skill (unusual these days, at least) and really strive to be excellent. It speaks to some of the best aspects of competition and the value of hard work, even if it’s a strange thing like ballroom dancing.
I would love to know if there are any outcome studies done for these kids against a control group that didn’t get the curriculum. Seems like something like this that demands dedicated skill development, hard work, cooperation, etc. would only be beneficial for kids, especially in late elementary and early middle school.
Makes me want to learn ballroom dancing myself. Highly recommend!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2024Heart-warming, affirmative, interesting, and full of dancing. I really enjoy this documentary.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2020This is a good movie for kids as well as adults. 5th grade and up as that is the age of the kids in the film. There is a fair amount of talking and explanation of the program but there is a lot of dancing and the kids are interviewed which is funny and my kids liked that part. It’s is a tale of transformation. Kids that at first wouldn’t hold hands were clamoring to dance and were worried about their “frame”. It’s fun and uplifting. Highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2024It’s okay
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2016I purchased this some years ago. A documentary about a bunch of NYC schoolkids learning ballroom dancing was not exactly my typical "gotta see" fare. I was surprised at how much I ended up enjoying it, enough that I even purchased the soundtrack cd. It focuses primarily on students from several different public schools who are being taught the dances in an effort to reach the citywide competition. Along the way, you get to see a bit about what their lives are like, what they think about, etc. You see a difference between who's taking the dancing and the competition seriously, who is maybe pushed a little harder to be better. Let's just say the most talented kids featured will leave you smiling and wondering if they were dancers in former lives. ;)

Such an uplifting, cute feel good movie. I cried with the kids when their team didn't make it to the champions, and cheered for the kids who won.
It made me want to dance

RafikiReviewed in Germany on September 21, 20075.0 out of 5 stars Sehr bewegend und authentisch
