The story of how the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat and the DC universe could find themselves not only existing on the same plain, but battling each other revolves around coincidental victories in the respective realms by Raiden and Superman. In Raiden's case it was a victory over Shao Kahn, while Superman bested Darkseid. These occurred at the exact same time and involved inter-dimensional elements, which somehow merged their two enemies into one being, Dark Kahn, while allowing the characters of the two universes to interact. In this merging the powers of the heroes and villains are scrambled as well, making some stronger than they ever were, and leaving others vulnerable for the first time in their lives, allowing each to battle on more or less equal footing. And battle they do without realizing that the uncontrollable rage that they feel for each other is actually the work of Dark Khan.
Gameplay
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe being a fighter, gameplay consists of one-on-one battles, both in local play and online, in which players can choose a character from either side who will face off against a counterpart from the other. Each character has unique attacks and special finishing moves, and fighting arenas vary depending on whether your character comes from the Mortal Kombat or DC universe. Keeping with the reputation for brutality in the Mortal Kombat franchise, characters from this side will have access to fatalities, while the historically less overly violent DC characters will execute "heroic brutalities," which are end moves where the opponent while beaten, is not killed. The game also features new gameplay mechanics such as: Freefall Kombat, in which players can engage in extended combat while in midair; Klose Kombat, during which the play angle moves to a close-up view of the action; The Test Your Might mini-game where you smash your opponent through walls; and Rage Mode, which increases the power of a character's attack by 50% and provides protection against being stunned by an opponent.

Update:
Online play is pretty much completely retarded as all anyone ever does is pick the flash and do his infinite combo over and over. Not fun at all.
Fight Night Round 3 was good, but it didn't showcase the systems full capabilities. Also boxing isn't the ideal fighter to play in a group environment.
If you're looking for a game to play with a bunch of friends (physically present) where the rookie button smasher has a chance at winning - this fits the bill. It's just pick up the controller and go!
As a past player of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken (series) I found myself getting out moves instinctively, that was of course followed with lots of trash talking!
The graphics are awesome!
The DC angle is just genius!
This game is pure fun!
After a few hours of button smashing and trash talking with a few friends I can report No slowdowns in a very fast 3D game play environment. The character rendering as well as the backgrounds are superb.
How this will stack up against Street Fighter 4, & 2009 UFC Undisputed I can't say, but as it stands now I think this one edges out Soul Caliber 4, but if you're a bigger fan of the Soul Caliber series than the MK one you may see that differently?
But as for the game... well I know my son loves it. We have the PS3 and thus this game is for that console. He spend quite awhile playing by himself and with his 15 year old brother and year old sister. The characters are really exceptionally drawn. The women are perhaps a bit to robust in certain areas but they can whoop on the guys just the same! There are a number of combos that are simple to follow even for my 7 years old. Dad and I I even join in the action and it really reminds me of the original MK. The characters available to choose from are awesome. You have "bad guys" Joker, Baraka, Scorpion, Deathstroke, Lex Luthor and good guys like Sub-Zero, Batman, Superman, Flash, Jax, Wonder Woman. Of course I haven't named them all here but you get the idea. I would recommend the game to anyone who enjoys the face to face matches and enjoyed games like Streetfighter, Tekken, or Marvel vs Capcom.
I like the merge of DC characters both villain & hero as well as the Mortal Combat characters. The violent finish moves are toned out of the game so that younger children (6 and up) are not affected by on screen character bloodshed. My only grievances are the story mode is long because you cant skip through dialogue. Also it would be cool to have a 2player story mode option on this game but obviously, being an old game I'm just ranting right now. Other than that I like the gameplay. It reminds me of the days I'd go to the arcade or pizza shop to play these old games.
Was not a bad investment as I and my kids play this game all the time.
I haven't played the game very deeply but I've played the Story Mode for some time and also with my friends and playing against them is just awesome!
The graphics are not the best you'll see and are lacking at some points but they're not horrible either. The combat system, though it's a bit far from the early Mortal Kombat games, is very well done and hooks you as you learn better the moves of the characters.
In general it is a very well done game that most shurely won't disapoint and will give you great adrenaline-packed fights.
