- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2019Yes, this is happening, it is very scary ! Being aware is the most important thing here. Even if you disbelieve it, you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES !
I glimpsed the negative reviews, I agree about the tsunami was an "off" factoid. Besides that, this is based on a book or two, you can fact check there or on the internet. I guess the nay sayers don't care if their grandchildren have water, or an uninhabitable Earth, they can live on Mars !
I used to watch Dr Richard Wolff economist on YouTube along with Chris Hedges, Noam Chompsky, and Corneil Wild. Even though Dr.Wolff is an economist, he's easy to watch and understand and surprisingly funny. Please watch him ! He actually said that the so called "Economic models" spouted by economists DON'T WORK ! They aren't even PROVEN to work ! Economists are basically SELLING MUMBO JUMBO LANGUAGE as facts when NONE OF IT IS FACT ! WOW !
Anyway the whole reason I bring up this aside is:
The soulless machines called corporations, are stripping our earth of every last resource. They are a runaway train w/o brakes. Our politicians have no will to hem them in, somehow the courts sanction them.
So HOW DO WE GET AROUND CORPORATIONS ? DR Wolff had the best idea I've heard yet, EMPLOYEE OWNED COMPANIES ! As a part owner along with your fellow worker/owners, would you vote to pollute some towns water so you can make a higher profit ? Would you and every worker vote to deplete your neighboring towns water supplies ? You get the idea. Even if you start a revolution over whatever issues, like in this movie, the corporation will still continue on elsewhere, even across the border If necessary. That's the only way around them, and then we boycott their products. You buy your products from employee owned companies.
Everyone needs to take a stand on ALL RESOURCES NOW ! These are sad times indeed. Tell everyone you know about Dr Richard Wolff.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2020This eye opening Documentary is informative, tragic, disturbing, but ultimately uplifting. While the time to act is now, we are at a stunning crossroads as to the future of our water supply. While the same old usual corporate suspects (Dupont, Dow, Coca-Cola, etc.) move to steal the same water they fouled up from local populations to sell that water back to them at astronomically higher prices while paying off governments in the meantime is absurd, shameful and downright evil. Seeing the struggle of people in Mexico, Kenya and countless other places is eye opening and sad. But this film offers solutions! And simple ones at that! In fact, turns out, the solutions are far simpler then the atrocious greedy corporate schemes used to destroy our water supplies and profit off of us and (what used to be) our water! When people unite and focus their energy, they can take back control of their societies and ultimately control their own destiny, as in the case of Bolivia and their water- which was truly uplifting, as was the case of Ryan's Well. Check out this documentary, because, If money is more important to society than water- Then who are we and what have we become!?
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2022The movie does seem to inform you on the use of aquifer (ground) water. Although it appears to disapprove of desalination technology. A true drawback to desalination use is that substances (I.e. tritium) in our oceans have many different conditions although most of them are not H20 which helps in the creation of the salt like substance. This movie did not speak of the importance of using primary water wells for our every use.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2010The bottom line is we CAN do something as long as we DO some basic things NOW. But, if we continue with our cavalier and arrogant attitude toward water, we will be no different than the poor soul that writes more checks than the deposits will support. Arguably, we could live much better and longer without money than we could without water.
This film reveals a flaw in the way we use water. And, it's a flaw that threatens to end whole societies. There are a few companies that are vilified; Coke and Nestle are surprises to me. I hope they're wrong or that these companies literally and sincerely repent. Politicians are pointed to with the same intent--some for out and out corruption, others for seeing what is ahead and trying to "hedge" the "water market."
Others have said this is an important film. I agree. I'm in a place where I can do something. Small, yes, but something.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2009Like "Flow," another great film concerning the coming - and inevitable - water crisis, "Blue Gold" relies primarily on the work of Canadian Maude Barlow. It presents the current state of fresh water: where it is; how much there is; how it's gotten; how fast it's disappearing; who wants to control access to it; and what communities can do to help protect their water sources from the corporate raiders. And it interpolates the kind of dog-eat-dog world the gradual loss of fresh water sources may generate. While the picture it paints is not necessarily catastrophic, it is quite forboding. Global warming is working hand-in-hand with global economics to produce a very bleak future for most the world's inhabitants. Three countries stand to become the new super-powers because they have the greatest fresh water reserves in the world: Russia, Canada and Brazil. Because of the virtual blackout of this topic in the mainstream media, this film, along with "Flow," are absolutely crucial to understanding what lies ahead.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2020Even though this video was released in 2008, it is still very applicable to the water issues we are currently facing in the year 2020. And it will continue to be an issue, unfortunately, due to the greed and mismanagement of this vital resource. We cannot live without water. folks. For our sake and the sake of future generations, we need to do a better job of practicing sustainability and not let powerful corporations or corrupt individuals abuse this precious resource.

jonseyReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 4, 20125.0 out of 5 stars ...and not a drop to drink!
Excellent, and highly watchable, documentary which clearly lays out what awaits us if we don't react now. OK we are all worried about post-peak oil but I'd rather do without petrol than water. As for what awaits us post-peak water.... we'll all be lipless, tongueless, noseless, blackened, leathery gasping... if you don't get the picture - watch the film!!!
