So just got the game about 2pm today so about 6 hrs in... not even in the first dungeon, seriously why am I not there yet? Those are what makes this game series awesome. But aside from being slow moving at first, which it is greatly, I really think I've played as much as I've had to talk with people or watched cut screens, this game is vary well done. The controls are all new and deff take some getting used to, maybe it is a good thing you don't just jump into battle. But the "realistic" sword movement and combat is really great, yes its annoying to calibrate the wiimote every time (this is my first game to use the motion plus so this is new to me) but is is nice to see Link swing the sword the same way as me and I have to think about my attacks instead of just flicking my wrist like in Twilight Princess. What sucks and will deff piss me off soon is the stamina meter and lack of roll to "run faster" that is a Zelda classic, as well as a meter for what your shield can hold up to and the number of potions related to every little thing it seems. Also this game is not meant to be played on a decent sized CRT tv; it is a pain to read most of what people say and if it's red forget it. Yes that is prob my fault but still not a fan. Oh and this new spirit to help you... may as well called it Naiv, the only thing bad about Ocarina seems to be back reincarnated. But this is deff a game to get for a Zelda fan, may take some time to get used to but deff solid so far.
Update:
So after so long of learning the controls, which are pretty good, but they really make use of the buttons, in a hurry this can cause problems, since this game seems to use only the quick switch of items. I Finally made it to the first dungeon, and this has deff made the game funner to me, there are not a lot of baddies to fight, and vary little variation, but almost every room has a puzzle in it which is a little annoying when you get stuck but at the same time keeps your mind on the ready to figure it out. This may be a problem to some that have not played the series before, but if you can remember some of the more tricky puzzles in the old game you kinda know what to expect and look for. The boomerang seems to have been replaced which is sad but the replacement seem ok and adds another lever of useing the motion plus... I'm not sure but it really seems like they want to get the use outta that thing. Fi is still super annoying, the music adds greatly to the game. The graphics still seem a little dated, but are prob the best you can get from the Wii, and they are done great for what they are. I think the biggest thing against this game is that it is a Zelda game and this means it has big shoes to fill. Now don't get me wrong, this game is really good, if it wasn't part of the series it would be great, I also think this is the game we expected years ago when the Wii first came out.
Conclusion:
If you like Zelda you need this, you will have fun but it is still no Ocarina, there is some changes that will seem disappointing. The graphics are prob about as good as the Wii gets and the music is great as always. It is extra slow moving at first, and really has too many cut scenes that you read threw (I'd be nice if they could have had full voice acting) The game seems more linear that the past, but seems to leave open some side quests and extra playability in collecting stuff as always.
Final Update:
I've beaten the game several weeks ago and figure I should finish my review of the game after completing it. If you're still debating getting the game stop just buy it, you won't regret it. Paying the extra for the bundle now from someone is up to you, for retail hell yeah you should buy it, for 120+ only if you really need to have the gold wiimote that is pretty sweet looking and if you are like me, needed to play the game cause I never got a motion plus prior to this. the game is really broken down into 3 parts. the first is great cause that's where you explore lands for the first time. then you go back threw them again, and its a little repetitive but the silent realms can get pretty intense and do add an awesome new dynamic to the game. The third time is where the game got really repetitive to me. you have different tasks to do in each of the 3, and the land is slightly altered, but for that late in the game annoying. The baddies are still few in type, but some are pretty hard, most of the bosses are great, tho having to fight some 3 times is a little disappointing. The dungeons, tho only 7 are great and if you're not paying attention in some rooms will cause you problems, and the final one is just amazing from the puzzle stand point. The final boss battle is also amazing. I like that the only true side quests are for gratitude crystals but they are also slightly annoying as fetch quests. large portions of the game are also fetch quests jumping from land to land, and vary linear. Yes the lands are large and explorable but really the only things to find are pieces of heart and goddess cubes. neither are that hard to find either. In my older age I have begun to rely heavily on online guides to make sure I didn't miss anything on my play threw but I think I needed to use one a total of 3 times, once for a room in a dungeon, once for how to beat an enemy and for 1 piece of heart cause I some how ran past it earlier. The over all difficulty does seem to have gone down, but this game will keep you busy for days or weeks, and vary easy to lose track of time in some places. While fun and a great game, and highly recommended to anyone that loves a good zelda game, it still seems underwhelming a comes up short compared to some of the older games.
the fallowing is unrelated to the game or my review of its content:
Also want to add for all the people complaining about Amazon; deal with it, the game came out on a Sunday, that is going to cause problems for anyone. I have worked at a CD/DVD ect distro and if it is not a Tuesday release everything goes to hell and that usually bad for a Friday release date, there is a good chance Amazon did not get there copies in till fri/sat or even mon to ship out making it a pain in their butts, you can't ship what you don't have. So in most cases it could not ship til mon or later. This is not their fault, but more nintendo's. If you want to point out best buy and walmart fine, they had them but i bet they got them Fri/sat which if the store was going to mail it to you you still wouldn't have til Tuesday. Please use some common sense before you complain about something with an obscure release date, esp when it is something worth waiting for, like this game is.
The golden remote is beautiful. It connects to the wii perfectly and its motion sensory is very precise. it weighs a little bit more than the non-motion plus controllers, but you don't really notice unless you are comparing them directly and it does not affect the play. the bundle does not come with a nun-chuck, but it looks fine with an ordinary white or black one. all the buttons(including the B button)are white, except for the A and the D-pad(the button that looks like a big +) the A button is transparent and gold inside and the d-pad is a solid gold color. and of course none of it is real gold. the white triforce symbol is on top of the holes that the sound comes out of on the front of the remote and is about the size of an SD card. it comes with a white rubber jacket and a white wrist strap. the remote has a built-in motion plus system and has good sound quality(for a wii remote)
The music track includes 8 orchestrated songs from some of the past Zelda games, the songs are:
1."the legend of Zelda 25th anniversary medley" 8 Minutes
2."Kakariko Village - Twilight Princess Theme" 3 Minutes
3."The Wind Waker Symphonic Moment" 10.5 Minutes
4."Gerudo Valley" 3.5 Minutes
5."Great Fairy's Fountain Theme" 3 Minutes
6."Twilight Princess Symphonic Moment" 10.5 Minutes
7."The Legend of Zelda Main Theme" 4.5 Minutes
8."Ballad of the Goddess from Skyward sword" 2 Minutes
all of the songs are beautiful and well done. they really make you think back to how great it was playing the older games and at the same time make you exited for the new game.
Now, the actual game, Skyward sword, is beautifully done. the watercolor art is one of a kind in the videogameing world today. at first the artwork looks kind of weird, after all we see now a days is realistic lifelike graphics, but Skyward sword is a break from all that, a kind of cartoonish style to appreciate. because of this, people say that the graphics are 'bad' or that they look weird, but after a while you get used to it and it is a good a game as any 'Call of Duty' or "Elder Scrolls" games, if not, better. the fully orchestrated music makes it all the better, it is truly a whole new way of playing Zelda. The plot is deep and New, very exiting! I am so thankful I preordered the game and remote when I did, because this was really limited edition.
the gameplay is easy at first, but it does get harder to beat enemies as you get further. don't let this discourage you though, just as in all the other Zelda games, the common enemies are easy to beat as you go along. you can figure out ways to beat them and bosses if you pay attention. the game is so fun! I have gotten pretty far in the game, but i have not finished yet. so far I have not had to use a guide or go online for hints, and I'm only 15. so, have fun, good luck, I hope I could help, and i hope you greatly consider buying this game.
