This device has one job - to connect to wifi. And it doesn't do that. Even if it does, it disconnects every 5 minutes. I updated with the latest drivers from the website and it still remains the same. I am returning this one week after purchase because I've simply had enough of it. If you're looking for a wifi adapter, save yourself some trouble and don't buy this. Go for a costlier better one instead of this. Also, looking at other reviews, the company's response is not so good. They're asking the customers to download inSSIDer to troubleshoot the problem, and that software costs $10/month for license! What a poor way of doing customer service - somehow trying to blame the customer, even if it costs for them.

Worked OK, for the time it lived. But I expected to get more life out of it. Not happy at all. It was working fine and all the sudden it just quit, multiple restarts and uninstall drivers and re-install drivers, tried different USB ports... Nothing. Just died.

Can't say enough good things about this item! Although I've not had it long, so far so very good. My HP DV6000 lost it's wireless ability (like every other DV6000 that HP ever built..) and all Hp offers is to replace the motherboard for 250.00. I replaced the internal wireless card but that didn't help, just more wasted money. So, I stated using an older, much larger USB wireless adapter. It worked but the signal strength was very weak and it struggled to stay on line. Read reviews on the Trendnet and decided to give it a shot. Installed on Windows 7 super easy and is pegging the signal meter. Signal is coming in loud and clear! All I've lost is one USB slot but that's way better & cheaper than anything that HP offers for DV6000 owners. Still got 2 USP slots to work with but at last I'm on line again and the signal strength is probably better than it was when the original HP internal wireless was working. Love to buy stuff that does what it claims to do. Thanks Amason...thanks Trendnet!

Once my dad purchased the Netgear Nighthawk I figured I would get an A/C adapter to try the next generation speeds of the new router. There were a few options, and this was the first one I tried (I ultimately went with the Netgear dual-band A/C) but it did not perform as I had hoped. The speeds were there, but the reliability and connectivity were not. I was experiencing a lot of drops in service, and a limited signal. Some of the latter can be attributed to location versus router placement, but not all of it. In the end I returned this device because the intermittent disconnects and hang-ups were intolerable. I'm sure it works well for some, but in my situation it was unreliable.

Got this working under Linux Mint with the "rtl8812au" driver (available several paces, such as [...]), but had to add the usb vendor and product ID to the following files:
8812au.mod.c:174
os_dep/linux/usb_intf.c:276

then:
make
sudo make install

and its working!

So this is my first review on Amazon. I usually don't write reviews and try to work out directly with tech support, but this is byfar the most hassle expereince I ever had with tech support. I bought this adapter in June 2014 and when I tried to connect it to one of the usb 3.0 ports from my desktop PC, it didn't work and windows kept telling "unable to connect to network". I tried this on 6 different computers never work. So then I was reading some reviews and realized that I am not the only one who face this problem, anyway I found out that using this on USB 2.0 actually works instead the advertised USB 3.0. Fast forward 5 months, now even on USB 2.0 I am having same problem, where it connect then disconnect, and tried this on at least 3 computers before I called tech support which a level 1 tech rep was on the line and tried to trouble shoot. I told them many times that I have already downloaded and updated the lastest driver and tried on serveral computers. Then the rep put me on hold for 10 min and came back said she don't have the right to work on RMA and told me that her supervisor will call me back within two hours. Anyway, 30 min later some guy name Arun (not sure now) called. So we are back on stage 1 where I explain and he ask me to update drivers and check on windows. After everything I said, he kept asking me what Windows version am I on, or wheater or the deiver manager show up with is driver. It was way too much hassle to get RMA. This is by FAR THE WORSE support that I have ever gotten.

It's been great for few months so far. I would stick with name brands, rather than get cheap no-brand variants. While the internal components may be similar, quality control is where name-brands shine.

My Windows 7 workstation is directly up one floor from the access point. Windows 7 always reports that it's connecting at 802.11n speeds, however if I look at the Verizon Quantum Gateway wireless side of things, it sometimes lists 802.11ac and sometimes 802.11n. Ironically, when connected at 802.11n speeds, I get a pretty consistent 150mbit/sec (as reported via Resource Monitor). When reported as ac-connected, the speeds are less consistent and actually seem to be slower for some reason. My Macbook Pro in the same room gets consistently high AC speeds.

The thing works fine, but perhaps due to lack of reasonably-sized antennas, you're not going to get good speeds out of this.

Edit: I just compared a benchmark of sending raw "zero" bytes to my gigabit-wired-connected fileserver over wireless, using netcat. I performed one test and then the other, both from the identical location in the house. This adapter on my Windows 7 workstation (yes, plugged into a USB 3.0 port) stayed at around 120 Mbit/sec. The built-in 802.11ac adapter on my Macbook stayed around 440 Mbit/sec. Meaning that the built-in WiFi on the mac is nearly 4x as fast as this adapter!

Edit2: I just now noticed how to see the official wifi speed that the adapter is connected with. This adapter connects at 433Mbit, according to Windows. I ended up getting a Rosewill AC1300 PCIe adapter with antennas, and it regularly connects at 866Mbit/sec. When it comes to the benchmark that I did before, it averages 240 Mbit/sec (about 2x as fast).

But wait, you might say! Obviously an AC1300 adapter is about 2x as fast as an AC600 one! I think what was deceptive here is that an AC600 adapter maxes out at 433Mbit.

"Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with the AC600 High Gain Dual Band Wireless USB Adapter, TEW-806UBH. The TEW-806UBH will connect to the networks you have configured access for based on signal strength. If your 802.11n and 802.11ac networks share the same name and password you can configure them using unique names to gain more control. A 2.4GHz wireless signal is going to penetrate dense obstructions better than a 5GHz signal. Your laptop may also be employing a multi-antenna 802.11ac solution with MIMO. The TEW-806UBH is a single antenna solution and does not include MIMO support. For a multi-antenna 802.11ac USB solution we carry the TEW-809UB.

Regards,

Adrian
