Shadow Falls is a camp for teenagers who are special. They house vampires, werewolves, fae, shapeshifters and witches. Side by side they learn about their abilities, how to control their magic and how to live in the normal world. Della never believed in a world such as this one, but that all changes when she sees her dead cousin walking into a dark alley. She follows him and hurts herself when she's jumped by a pack of werewolves. Her open wound is what causes a virus to become active and Della turns into a vampire. Her cousin helps her through this transition and Della has to accept that her life will never be the same again. Will she believe everything her cousin is telling her or will Della listen to the voice inside her head?
Turned at Dark is a short story that is part of the Shadow Falls series. Della has always been controlled by her father's pride. He wants his family to live in perfection and now that Della is doing things she's never done before he's having a hard time coping with her behaviour. Della is a sweet young girl who loves her parents and her younger sister very much. It's heartbreaking when she finds out that she needs help if she wants to stay in her family's life. I was captivated by her story from the start. C.C. Hunter knows how to keep you glued to the pages with her mesmerizing stories. I've read the complete Shadow Falls series and I loved every single one of them. This bonus short story reminded me of how much I enjoyed this addictive series and I'm literally itching to start reading it again.

4.6 Stars.. I have read all the Shadow Fall books and loved them. I happened on these novellas which tells of each characters beginnings of how they became supernatural. I love Della's side, she is a hard stubborn ass who I can relate to. I can't say much on this book because you need to read it, I believe first to get the story behind who she is and why she is like she is at Shadow Falls Camp.. Just know it is good and will make you keep reading all of the Shadow Fall Books and love each characters side.. Recommend to all ages if you love Supernatural, Camps, Family and Friends.. Gina Clabo

This is the ebook opening to the Shadow Falls series of books. In this story we find the main character, Lylie Galen, who is 16. Her boyfriend has recently broken up with her, her grandmother has recently died and her parents are getting a divorce. If that wasn't enough she seems to have a stalker that keeps appearing to her, a stalker which no one else can seem to see.
Then she decides to go to a party and even more bad things happen. She ends up a 'blame the victim' type of person as her mother thinks Kylie is a 'trouble' youth and needs to be sent to a special camp for the summer.
She gets a taste of what it's going to be like when she gets on the bus and finds a group of somewhat weird looking and acting students.
She stays on the bus and her adventure begins. I sometimes wonder, though, why girls in this situation (and it seems to be mostly girls) does not just get off the bus and tell her mother that she's not going to go to camp. Her mother can't actually have her physically abducted and taken there so what else could she do but maybe ground Kylie till she's 18? Of course then the story would end right there and we'd never have the excellent series of books that follow.

Della Tsang is strong-willed, thick-headed, and independent. She is trying to live up to her Chinese father's high expectations of her while still being her own person and not disappointing herself. Logically, she knows ghosts don't exist, at least until she sees the cousin whose funeral she attended the year before running into a dark alley. When she follows him, she finds herself in the middle of a gang-war, and Chen, her cousin, saves her. Unknowingly, he also turns her. Chen is a vampire, and Della is about to become one as well. Forced to admit that not everything is so logical, she must now decide if she will fake her own death as he did and follow him to live in a clan or if she will travel to Shadow Falls and hope for a more normal life.
This is a super duper short novella that showcases the story of how Della turned into the vampire she now is. The story is very simple and linear. I love how the change is written like a disease. Part of me feels like it could've been written to take up a little bit more time, but at the same time, it was written just well enough that you understand it without getting bored.
Della is a nice character. She is strong and cynical, trying to live up to her father's super high expectations of her. She is starting to tire of it though, and is about ready to just run away from it all. She wants to move in with her boyfriend Lee and just start her own life. Living up to her own expectations instead of someone else. You don't get to go deep into hers, or anyone's characters, with how short the story is, but she is a good character that I am looking forward to learning more about.
However, after beginning Born at Midnight, the first real book in the series, this novella becomes a massive disappointment. Within the first few chapters, you actually meet Chan and hear a bit of Della's backstory. Things don't match up. Namely, Chan wants to take her to Utah in the novella, but in Born at Midnight, it's Pennsylvania. Some of the other tidbits don't match either. Being that they were published no more than a fortnight apart, you have to wonder why the details would be so obviously different.
Regardless, this is a really quick, easy, read. If you overlook the small details, then this is a good precursor to the main series. It isn't an imperative read, but it is usually free on Amazon so there is really no reason to not read it.

One of my favourite characters!

This is perfect short story for fans of the Shadow Falls series, with one of my favourite characters, Della being featured I could not resist. That cover just sums up Della straight away, she is edgy, stands for nothing and is a creature of darkness... a vampire.
In the Shadow Falls series you only catch little bits of information to do with Della's past, however you never catch the whole story. We know that she meets her 'dead' cousin and her boyfriend rejects her because of what she has become. But we are enlightened to the innocent and vulnerable Della who promises to always stay with her sister and who could never put her family through the events that her cousin put his through. We learn how she came to her decision to go to Shadow Falls and how this has changed her.
Della has the nickname of 'Hardheaded Della' with in her family, she is strong, funny, sarcastic and overall great fun to read about. But, when she is in Shadow Falls we have only seen that side of Della, in contrast to how she is at home. She appears vulnerable and emotional, letting her true self come out when no one is looking.
This short story was perfect to enable us to see what Della's life was like before Shadow Falls, however I would have liked to have seen more. There was still a mystery behind her meaning we were unable to explore precisely what her life was like before she was turned into a vampire.
Though if you love the Shadow Falls series like I do, you will definitely love Della's short story. The Shadow Falls series first begins with: Born at Midnight.
