Funny, but...

This album is fun, but the content is filthy. It's even filthier than Lonely Island's first CD. I'm not judging: it's Lonely Island. I knew what I was buying. I knew the songs "Motherlover" and "I Just Had Sex" were on it, so I knew it would be suggestive, I just didn't realize it would be FILTHY. And the songs are also catchy, so then you have filthy, catchy songs on a loop in your head. Again, I'm not saying it's wrong; I'm just trying to give everyone a realistic idea of what this CD is like.

That said, I did laugh out loud several times. The first CD was sort of just a hodgepodge of Andy Samberg's musical stuff from Saturday Night Live. This CD is more pure Lonely Island, more of the creation of the three friends together. My favorite songs are "Mama," "Turtleneck and Chain" and "The Creep." But I can almost guarantee that "I Just Had Sex" WILL get stuck in your head. And I can't get over that they got Akon to sing so much crazy stuff!

Great music that happens to be funny

Like Incredibad [CD/DVD], this is more than just a comedy album. It is music that is entertaining to listen to that happens to be written by brilliant comedy writers. I could easily imagine non-english-speaking people listening to (most of) these songs and not realizing there were jokes to be had. The songs are all very well produced and the guest musicians really bring their A-game (especially Timberlake).
I still listen to Incredibad now and then (2 years later) and I expect I'll still be enjoying this a few years in the future. Money well spent.
I'd also like to point out that buying MP3s from amazon is fantastic... if you haven't tried it yet, now is a good time to start. The Cloud Drive is just icing on the cake.

Some funny moments, but not nearly as awesome as Incredibad.

Like i said, it had some funny moments for sure, but this album was not nearly as funny as their first. It just didnt have the flow or the feel of the first album, the songs weren't as good overall, and it wasnt even close to being as funny. It's not horrible, and there are some particularly funny tracks, but they represent around half of the total package IMO. Additionally, some of the songs really need the accompanying video to really make it funny. You kind of need to see Andy throwing a hotdog on the ground to appreciate just how funny that particular song is, for example.
Anyway, not bad, not great. I give it a middling 3 stars.

Creeping its way into your heart...

I imagine there are two groups of people who are looking to purchase this album, fans of the first album Incredibad or those new to the Lonely Island game and are interested in humorous music. To the first crowd, welcome back to hilarious tracks to blast through your car speakers with your windows down during rush hour (you awesome jerks). The second crowd, be warned and so some research. A fair number of jokes are of the toilet/offensive variety and you can watch some of their music videos on Youtube first to see if that bothers you.

However, if you like what you hear/see, I believe you can do no wrong supporting these guys. Catchy songs like "I Just Had Sex", "Jack Sparrow", "Turtleneck and Chain" and "The Creep" are bound to be considered classics from this second outing. While it's yet to be seen if we have another "I'm On A Boat" on our hands, the Lonely Island's fake rap remains very entertaining and worth five light beers.

After their first album "Incredibad," I expected Turtleneck & Chain to be a step down. Not the case. The guest appearances on this album are on par with the first (Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Beck, Santogold, MICHAEL FREAKIN BOLTON) and, I think, it feels more polished overall. "We're Back" is lightyears ahead of "who said we're wack?", "I just had sex" feels like an evolved "I'm on a boat," and the lyrical hilarity returns on this album. Not only hysterical, the lyrics are extremely well thought out.

The song "Jack Sparrow" is worth $10 by itself.

Buy this album. Now.

For those of you unfamiliar with this group, think of a mix of Adam Sandler's humor in his first couple of comedy cd's with the music quality of Tenacious D. That's right, the best of both worlds. These guys are funny and know how to put a song together. The dvd that accompanies the cd is great. If you like digital shorts on SNL, this is the album for you.

For those of you that are familiar with the band, it is a great album, but nothing can compare to Incredibad.

Vinyl Records in This Day and Age?

Look. I'm over forty and a little jaded. My 17 year old son does not talk to me directly much, so I have to listen. He wanted a record player for Christmas - done,and some old 60's and 70's vinyls - done. But when he approached me to show me The Lonely Island videos on his tablet this November, I had to go to Amazon.com to see if the vinyl record existed. Of course of did! This record was the highlight of my son's Christmas because he did not expect it. With the addition of a disc of the videos from Turtleneck and Chain, I couldn't go wrong! If you are a younger person, or would like a gift for one,you simply cannot go wrong with this purchase!
