To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine Paperback – Bargain Price, January 3, 2011

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 144 ratings

To Save America

The message of this extraordinary election [in November 2010] is clear enough: the American citizenry has rejected the secular dogma, socialist policies, and machine–driven politics that comprise the Obama agenda. Now, the question is whether President Obama and his Democratic Party will accept the will of the people and change the destructive course upon which they have set this country.

. . . [F]irst and foremost, Republicans must fight to dislodge the secular–socialist machine whose methods and goals are described in this book. This machine has driven America so deeply into debt, and has so fundamentally changed the relationship between the American citizenry and our government, that our children’s future is now imperiled. We cannot assume that after the 2010 election, the machine will simply accept the will of the people. After all, the very purpose of a political machine is to
thwart the will of the people.

So, what do Newt Gingrich's, "To Save America" and Mitt Romney's, "No Apology" have in common? Both are well written, highly readable, very intelligent analyses of the state of our Country.

... and, contrary to the whining of Democrats that Republicans are the party of "no", and no new ideas, both Gingrich and Romney's books are filled with them.

In fact, speaking of "To Save America", Gingrich speaks primarily in terms of solutions, and presents detailed solutions at that - on all the major issues of the day.

One of the fallacies surrounding "To Save America," is that it is a bash Obama treatise, first, last and only. And, Gingrich does do that - quite well in fact - although he is such a frequent contributor/commentator on television these days that many of his well researched bashings have already been aired. Still, it is quite damning that books like this are required to help realign a Country that has been taken so far off course by Obama and his Democrat enablers.

Less understood, however, is that more than 50% of "To Save America" consists of Gingrich's blueprint to re-state/re-implement America's value structure. Like Romney's book, Gingrich's is a platform on which to run against Obama in 2012.

"To Save America" is highly recommended. It is densely packed with facts, information, opinion and proposed solutions. It is written in language that is so clear that you can virtually hear Mr. Gingrich's voice as you turn the pages. It is a call for action, at least a call to end the ambivalence of too many people regarding their Country.

Newt Gingrich has produced a book with 25 chapters, each one a well-thought-out explication of his basic premise, namely, that a very powerful group of left-wing activists is moving our center-right country to the left despite strong public opinion against their policies. Several chapters are co-authored by experts in their field who lend greater credence to the author's claims.

Unlike many political books, this one offers solutions to America's many problems that do not require expansion of the federal government's control over every aspect of our lives. The Left wants everyone to turn over their liberties to a centralized bureaucracy in Washington that will make all of the decisions that previously were made by individuals instead. On the other side are Tea Party activists who are frustrated by what's going on in DC, and this book provides an intelligent approach that should be considered strongly by the Tea Party as they seek to devolve power back to the people.

I am convinced that a number of folks who have not read this book are assigning one star as their rating simply because they prefer to have a government that controls us from afar, including the food we eat, the diagnosis and treatment of our diseases, and the investment of our hard-earned savings. It would be nice if there were some way for Amazon to require that reviewers demonstrate at least a basic knowledge of the content of a book prior to writing reviews (say, a test over several aspects of the book), but I suppose this would require a lot of expense so it will not happen. It does seem basically dishonest for reviewers to rate a book with one star before reading what the book has to say.

No one has all of the answers to our current dilemmas, but I do give Newt Gingrich credit for putting forth the effort to define a number of problems and then to propose solutions to them. Even if one does not agree with the author's political philosophy, assigning a single star to a well-written book seems dishonest to me. Since I do not know the reviewers, I cannot state without reservation that they are actually dishonest, but the appearance is overwhelming and disconcerting.

In Newt Gingrich's, "To Save America," he yokes and analyzes a pair of words to help his readers, fellow citizens, and whatever thoughtful person who will to examine the current coalition that is laboring to dominant the economic, moral, political, and cultural life of contemporary America. I speak of the words "secular" and "socialist". "Secular" is reasonably well-chosen for the mounting evidence of events, speeches, and writing points to a strong bias opposing traditional expression of Christian faith and practice. However, one is led to wonder about the precision of "secular" as the most appropriate term with the advent of a growing number of persons that the coalition is nominating, endorsing, and appointing to sensitive posts in government - all the while presenting them as "devout" Muslims. That is not quite "secular" in the sense of the Latin root of the English word, which makes "worldly" or "oriented to the things of this world," or "separted from all religious interest" function as good synonymns. "Socialist", as a word, fares better for it captures the essential political ideology of the dominant coalition members, even though they carefully avoid any public embrace of the term. Their consistent favoring of governmental, bureaucracatic, and legislative solutions to support the agendae of those who invest in them and in their colleagues belies a genuine distaste for a socialist model for government. For those who are anguishing at or adulating the current coalition and who may want to explore a reasoned, contrary view, Newt's latest essay is a good read. I commend it. David C.
