We've seen the original Ice Road Trucker franchise travel through the arctic territories of Canada and Alaska since 2007. With the "IRT Deadliest Roads" adaptation, the first season took us to some of the poorest non-icy road conditions in India. To up the stakes for Season Two, veteran stars Hugh, Rick and Lisa take us to picturesque South American for hours of navigation among cliff tops and jungle passages. After so many seasons, in one variation or another, of the IRT brand--I'm not sure it's necessary to explain the concept of the show to someone shopping this DVD, so I won't. What I will say, though, is that the Andes mountain range offers spectacular new challenges as well as incredible visual delights. The environment itself is so different from anything our truckers have faced on screen, so the setting plays just as much a role (if not more) than the incidental drama. The location footage is a major selling point. Other than that, your enjoyment of the show depends on how much more time you want to spend with Hugh, Rick and Lisa. Sometimes unprofessional, occasionally annoying--I still enjoyed this trip to South America despite my usual reservations about individual drivers.

All thirteen episodes from Season Two are included over this four disc set for a running time of 9.5 hours. There is some additional footage included as a bonus, but (as with previous releases) it didn't really enhance the DVD experience much.

The episodes included: (1) The Death Road, (2) Rise of the Rookies, (3) Lisa vs.The Devil's Bridge, (4) The Replacement Trucker, (5) Death Race, (6) The Flattest Place on Earth, (7) Oxygen Required, (8) Desert Disaster, (9) The Hangover, (10) Dead Man's Canyon, (11) King of the Road, (12) Landslide!, and (13) Bull Run.

I have followed the Ice Road Truckers series quite carefully and was delighted to buy the second season of Deadliest Roads. Watching this makes your hands feel sweaty and clinging to the side of your armrest as you see the dangers of these roads that the truckers take through the Andes of Bolivia while they deliver critical cargo to poor villages. I must also wonder what kind of money they were offered to take these risks on the mountainous roads because danger is awaiting around every corner and each trucker is unable to even relax from their rigid stances behind the wheel.
The first trips introduce the truckers to hairpin turns on paths barely wide enough to even fit their trucks on, hugging the mountainside and sending rocks tumbling off the edge over drop-offs of at least 2000 feet high into rivers and rocks below. The roads prove too much to two of our veteran truckers--Dave Redmon, who faces severe brake failures in the end while riding with Lisa Kelly, and Rick Yemm, who gets impatient with his truck getting stuck in the mud while riding with Hugh Rowland, and Dave and Rick quit literally on the same day. Lisa ponders whether or not she should quit too, but she sticks to the challenges, and she and Hugh Rowland deal with driving solo trips across the Death Roads when it was crucial to have a spotter in the first place to guide them on the dangerous paths. Lisa eventually gets a new partner to ride with, and Hugh seems to show little fear as his truck tires literally leave the edges of the cliffside roads at some points, and he laughs while driving through a waterfall, showing that his true Canadian spirit is never broken behind the wheel. The movie also introduces two new drivers from L.A., who face new challenges in their lifetimes and bond together as friends to stay alive, even facing the scary risks of driving through the Death Roads in the pitch-black darkness of nighttime. This movie is a MUST-SEE!!! Go, truckers!!!

I like this show and I wish they made more of these deadly roads versions, this series shows not only how dangerous the roads are but how the poor people in these countries live. And how life is in another country though I admit there are places in America that compare. You have to give these truck drivers credit for driving these roads, even if most of them have the typical American ego mentality of being invincible or the best as they even fight amongst themselves on these roads. Though it makes interesting viewing how dangerous these high roads are especially driving a truck with cargo. A very interesting show for anyone to watch.

One more to add to my collection. Love them all. I think this was the first season I saw on TV
Working at warehouses; I see the same attitude. "I here to drive. Drive your truck, forklift."
I'm almost getting my FAST card. It applies to IRT too. Receive an email to head over to the office. :) commercial driver

I was disappointed with the lack of teamwork in this season and the lack of seeing/ learning of the people/ culture this time.
I , too , did NOT like the dishonesty of the drivers when damage was done !!! Poor character and representation for at least part of America.

I have all of the IRT seasons and loved them all. However it was disturbing to watch how some of the truckers seemed to have a blatant disregard for the little that many of these people had. It seemed to be an "Oh well" attitude when things were destroyed or damaged not because of the roads and terrain, but because of recklessness or competition. One trucker in particular was an embarrassment to me as an American. We wonder why other countries and cultures hold some of the views of Americans that they do. I continue to love IRT and wish that IRT Season 1 was available.
