What a wonderful change of pace! Finally a mystery show that hooks you on the first episode. Kudos to Nickelodeon. Learning Egyptian mythology has never been so exciting.

These are high school age kids living in an English boarding house and solving puzzles and mysteries related to Egyptian artifacts and legends. Having a coed "house" for high school kids is probably kind of unrealistic (but necessary, having both boys and girls helps the stories), but other than that, these stories are just great fun if you like mysteries. Some of the puzzles they have to solve remind me of video games I've played. A couple of the kids have been hammy actors, but they are in general very good and the stories are interesting. For me a side bonus is no sex, no swearing, no violence. Just a fun story.

A soap opera for middle schoolers, my boys enjoy the story and while there are "boy/girlfriends," the romance is mild, the clothes are not over-revealing, and there is a mystery to figure out. The one adversary is not evil, giving up a chance at immortality to save the student, but still remaining an adversary. My main complaint is that the students are constantly breaking the rules and sneaking around, but since they are in competition to find artifacts with the adult group, there is no other option. I discuss this with our boys and point out when, if they had worked together, it all would have worked better for everyone.

My kids and I just love HOA! The characters now in Volume 7 are well established; Victor is his same nasty self and Vera is always the scheming one. If you haven't seen HOA, then please start on Season 1 and prepare for season after season of intrigue and suspense, mixed in with a LOT of puppy love. Too cool. Go Fabian!
