Although mentioned absolutely nowhere here on Amazon, Oscar-nominated Susan Tyrrell appears as the voice of the old woman and she is a centrally important character in the story. Her contribution made a good film that much better. She died shortly before the release of this film and it's great to see an artist of this caliber sought-out and appreciated right up to her passing. Tyrrell was notorious for not getting along with directors so it wouldn't be a surprise if she had her name removed from the credits as I've read she sometimes did.

The Zellner brothers are, without question, talented and "Kid Thing" is much more focused than their other also otherwise excellent films. It is refreshing to see their near obsession with animals finally take a hiatus. Hopefully not permanently but if it was growth they were seeking with this film they accomplished their goal. This is also the first Zellner film I've watched that didn't give me the feeling that I might not be "in on the joke" as I watched which, for me, is much more entertaining because I felt like a participant as I experienced several of the characters emotions and better understood character actions. Some have said they didn't like the ending but I did. I appreciate that they dared to be creative rather than follow standard formula. It is beautifully filmed and the sound, editing, and music are top notch.

Sydney Aguirre is a real gem and could have a great career if she wants it but it's been reported she doesn't. That's too bad. No offense intended whatsoever to Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal but where was Sidney Aguirre when "Hunger Games" was casting Katniss Everdeen? There is much to like about this little film and it deserves a large audience.

Don't expect anything and you will enjoy this movie. Sydney is a great actor! I was disappointed by the ending, but that's me...I'm sentimental.

The symbolism in this movie is finely crafted. The young actress gets 'it'; the sign of a true talent.
