Fixer Asach Quinn is bored and jaded on Makkasar. Librarian Colchis Barthes is winding down his career on Sparta. Governor Jackson is corrupt and scheming on Maxroy's Purchase. Seer Laurel Courter is young and determined. Splintered by distance, competing visions, and outside rivalries, New Utah is forgotten and alone in a remote backwater of Imperial space. Those less advanced may be parceled out as colonial concessions ( King David's Spaceship). Outworlds that refuse to join risk annihilation by zealous commanders intent on preserving the hard-won peace at any cost.

New Utah's fate depends upon meeting the Empire with one, united voice. Enter the Seer, the Fixer, and the Librarian. One way or another, everything is about to change.

WARNING!!!! Book 3 is NOT written by Larry Niven OR Jerry Pournelle!!!

WARNING!!!! Book 3 is NOT written by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle!!! It is written by Jerry's daughter, who uses her initial and last name so "J. Pournelle" makes you think that the book "Outies" was written by the masters. It was NOT. She is a hack. The characters are one-dimensional, and the universe they occupy is askew of the wonderful universe created in Mote and Gripping Hand. It is really a crime that she was allowed to finish this series, and a greater crime that her initial and last name has caused so many to purchase this book thinking Jerry was the author. Much like Gregory Benford's awful sequel to Arthur C. Clarke's "The City and the Stars", the sequel does not even come close to the original. Outies is like an odd-numbered Star Trek - You deserve a "Red Shirt" if you fall for this one.

READ "The Mote in God's Eye" and "The Gripping Hand" They comprise one of the best stories in science fiction! Skip "outies", unless disappointment is something you like.
