Gifted Thief (Highland Magic Book 1) Kindle Edition
Since the moment I was ripped from my mother's womb, I've been an outcast amongst my own kind. The Sidhe might possess magical Gifts, unbelievable wealth and unfathomable power but I don't want a thing to do with them. I ran away from their lands in the Highlands of Scotland when I was eleven years old and I've never looked back. I don't need a Clan. I've got my own family of highly skilled thieves who mean more to me than any Sidhe ever could.
Unfortunately for me, the playboy heir to the Moncrieffe Clan has something I desperately need. To get it back, I'm going to have to plunge myself back into that world, no matter what the consequences may be. I suppose it's just as well I have sense of humour. I think I'm going to need it.
By bestselling author Helen Harper, Gifted Thief is the first book in the Highland Magic series.

Now that you know what it is about let's talk about it. Integrity is a young, head strong, beautiful and talented young woman. She made quite the life and friendship through her seedy ways. She has some really great qualities and a completely self aware main character. I enjoyed her as the point of view. I really liked her and feel rather fond of her. I couldn't have imagined a better person to rely this story. Her jokes are hilarious. They made me snort my drink several times. They are cheesy but I love cheesy jokes. Now my favorite character is Bob. He made me laugh and look forward to every time he popped in. He is a perfect side kick and hope to read more about him. It is hard to pick my favorite scene because I liked quite a few. The one that stood out the most was the trip to Foinse. You got to learn a lot about the other characters. Lily was awesome during the trip and Barbie the horse was making me laugh. I liked the way the story flowed and it certainly had many twists and turns. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast paced paranormal adventure. You will not be disappointed and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
The world building was just enough to create this urban fantasy world for the reader, but I found that some spots of the writing were too drawn out. I love that there are a lot of different species in this book. I'm also calling it now that one of her heist-friends will end up betraying her. I'm going to read the rest of the series, but this isn't grabbing me as quickly as her blood destiny series is.
This book started out with Integrity and her friends on a mission to steal an expensive gem. That was supposed to be her last mission before she retired and move out of the city, but things went terribly wrong. Not going to say anymore then that.
This book is full of actions and magics and oh, don't forget...integrity's awesome jokes. Lol. Okay, okay her jokes are lame but it made her more endearing and cute in the book.
I can't wait until February 29th because I would love to read more about Integrity. Oh, did I forget to mention, Mr. Hotness Bryon? Well, I would love to see more of him, too, clothed or naked.
But I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves Fey, fantasy, magic, and just plain badass main character with bad jokes.
"What did the beaver say to the tree?"
"It's been nice gnawing you." Lol.

As long as Helen keeps writing to this standard with excellent storylines and dialogues I'll happily buy her books and highly recommend her books to anyone who'll listen!.....Buy this series...if you like Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison and Jeaniene Frost.....well, Helen Harper is right up there with them...buy her books, you really won't be disappointed!
Integrity Taylor is the only clanless Sidhe in Scotland after terrible events led to the rest of her clan being completely wiped out when she was still in my mother's womb. She was placed in the household of one of the other sidhe clans and treated like dirt until she snaps and just walks out. She meets Taylor, a mastermind thief who raises her and shows her the tricks of the trade.
Now a fully grown woman and thief extradinaire, Integrity, as the last member of the Adair clan, is needed by the Clans as their magic and existence hangs in the balance. What will Integrity do? She doesn't have magic like other Sidhe - how will she protect herself and her friends for the machinisations of the Clans?
The story line flows beautifully across the pages creating an amazing image of a Scotland different from the one we know. The characters are well written and intriguing, well rounded and believable. It doesn't use sex to carry the storyline like so many others in the genre do, but the sexual tension between Integrity and her love interest is all the more sexy and palpable because of it. I bought the rest in the series as soon as I'd finished this first offering - I liked that you can tell Harper was a teacher with the optimism and power of "yet" running through, never willing to give in to the darkness.
I had a love hate relationship with Integrity as I liked her sense of humour which is relentless, adored her loyalty to her friends but boy did I question her morals. She spends a lot of time lusting for one character then can’t wait to rip the clothes off his friend ! However I must quickly state that it’s not a sexy scene as the author keeps a fast pace which works beautifully.
There’s a lot left to the readers imagination as there’s so much still to learn about Integrity’s parents and exactly what happened all those years ago . I truly enjoyed her progression in this story as she’s really starting to get wise to the cruel and dangerous world she’s found herself back in . Plus those around her are very interesting characters although my favourite has to be Bob but my lips are sealed.
Bottom line is Integrity is smart, incredibly loyal and very resourceful, what more could I ask for in a heroine ?
