Lorna a young of 17 y/o having Major Surgery. What happened next. The book is not a: Mystery, Suspense or Thriller also not for YA.
This is really; Sci-Fi for the story that Mr. Aspinall wrote (of course there's the criminal hand attached to a good man and so on) an incredible whole change in a 16 y/o girl.
As the book goes by...Lorna change her manners, language and attitude, sometimes embarrased by masculine things. The characters need a re-vamp also the story and genre.
What was hidden and why her life is in peril although she's now a "Killing Machine"? Just read one book and the cliffhanger doesn't let me think I follow the story.
I'm very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement?
How another reader believe in my review? If I didn't read the book, I don't Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn't good, Review.
With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own.

Oh baby …. let me tell you when I 1st started with this book, Truly Deadly, I was not really sure that it would pull me in. (Mr. Aspinall PLEASE do not take offense.) It begins:
”Sixteen and my life is basically over. And, no, I am not being dramatic”
Mr. Aspinall gives you a Prologue that is from deep with in the book. A teaser, to pull you into reading more to find out exactly how a 16 yr. old could have her life really ending. Suicide? Murder? Accident? ‘Oh me, Oh my what do we have here?’
”I kept the accelarator planted on the floor, doing over a hundred, with the grille of a Range Rover twisted in a tangle of metal to the rear bumper of the ambulance, driven by a grim-faced bitch doing her best to run us off the road.”
Ok, now you have me interested a bit more … why in Hades would a 16 yr. old be flooring an ambulance with another some how attached to it? LOL guess Mr. Aspinall had the right idea after all. Put a thrilling section from deep in the world this teen is living in. ‘Slam, bam, Thank You Ma’am’ kinda way. Which once you begin reading the next section you will just keep on reading.
I was a bit off because I had to adapt my thinking to a European’s thoughts. Some of the words almost threw me off, thinking the spelling was off or worse the 16 yr. old just used slang way too much. But nope, that was not the issue. It was written “breezy old Manchester of England.” Oh, don’t get me wrong, the MC is a 16 yr. old so there sure did use slang & bloody “#” (uggg I get annoyed when it’s hash tag ‘up the wazzoo. Winking smile )
Will I keep on reading this series. Hmm, let me think for a second or soooo … Bloody Hades I will!!!
Mr. Aspinall created an interesting character in Lorna Walker. Plus when you add in a few others, you can see how she will become more & more “well-rounded.” (is that the proper word? Hmm, I really don’t know. But you are watching a 16 yr. old fight to stay alive after receiving a heart transplant.
Lorna doesn’t back down. She puts one foot in front of the other & hauls arse to keep herself alive. As well as others that she knows or has run across in this tail of … mystery, murder, mayhem … how an organization, hidden so deep, wants her dead because of a list. One that curiosity really killed the cat, because that is what caused her to be brought to their attention!
I cannot wait to see what happens to Lorna in the following book, Infinite Kill. To find out if she can trust those she is with, or if it is just some set up to bring her in.

I didn't have a lot of expectations when beginning the first book in this series but I was very pleasantly surprised that it, and the ones following, exceeded expectations of most any escapist novel I have read. Unbelievable in many, many ways? Absolutely. But they turned out to be a fun read and even something of a guilty pleasure. Don't expect Ludlum and you shouldn't be disappointed.
By-the-way, when is the next one planned for release??

This book would have gotten four stars but the 16 year old 'speak' from Manchester England, really got on my nerves. I have family from that area an I have never heard them speak like that. Now having said that, the idea is innovative, the characters involved and developed. There are some real surprises and even though some of the kid stuff was irritating, the plot really caught me.
Note: After buying this one, at the end, it allowed me to download a copy of book 2 for free from the author.
Book 2 really got us going and while I am still not sure I can say I love the series, I did finish both books in two days and enjoyed them.

This book caught my attention in the first chapter and held on to the very end. There is a lot of action and a whole new twist o espionage and cloak and dagger. It is a fresh read that follows a teenage girl who receives a lifesaving transplant and all heck breaks out after tat. With international intrigue and monumental fight dialogue along with a simple story about a teenager and her angst this flows very well.

It starts out a little slow. You get the lay out of the series in this book. Once all that is over you have a fly by the seat of your pants not knowing what is going to happen next kind of book. For YA and older. The girl has a mouth on her, but what kid her age doesn't? I have read the whole series and have enjoyed all of them, some of the books more than others. I wish the series had a few more books before stopping.

This insults teens and the way they think and speak. I assure you they know how to use foul language better than that. I couldn't finish the book. Shallow characters. Flimsy story. It just wasn't worth my time. Or yours. Not recommended.

So I thought I may not like this book once I started reading. Full of teenage snarky comments and quips at the beginning without getting into the story. But it most definitely set the tone and had laugh out loud moments as the story continued. I was surprised I liked it so much by the time I got about half way through. I was angry when I realized I was at 80% and there was only a little bit of the story left to read. And I was checking my bank account at 99% to make sure I had the money for book two. I was not expecting sooo much of what happened in this story. I loved it!

Female Jason Bourne - Born
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2016Verified Purchase
Very good read, well written, fast paced. I joined Rob's mailing list to get next instalment. I would recommend this Author to anyone. It was interesting having male author write a female character, and get the young woman, so real. Lorna Walker is the female Jason Bourne, but with added fun.
I like finding new writers on Kindle store, I recommend people trying out the free kindle books and if possible give author a review. Without doubt my new kindle paperwhite is my favourite gadget - I still have my trusty 3g keyboard - the back light helps me read in bed, without keeping my wife awake. Also kindle books are so cheap.

Deadly and Dreadful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 4, 2021Verified Purchase
When I started reading ‘Truly Deadly’ I didn’t realise I was embarking on a series, and I didn’t appreciate how young a ‘young adult’ story may be pitched. If I’d known I wouldn’t have started. But I did start and I did finish – but I won’t be reading further as it seems the series continues as ridiculously awful. There is plenty of action but this is aimless and it jumps around and fails to be in any way gripping. A better title for the book could be ‘Truly Dreadful’. From my position on the wrong side of a ‘generation gap’ I think a 2-star rating is probably fair.

Don't Mess With Lorna!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 15, 2018Verified Purchase
An action packed thriller with a dash of fantasy and plenty of teenage angst. The story is completely improbable and impossible, but hangs together quite nicely. I loved the way Mr Aspinall balanced Lorna. One moment she is very sharp young lady and the next a moronic teenager with mush for brains. She goes from hapless victim to badass bitch in the blink of an eye and back again. We are witness to all of her anxieties, but instead of being bored out of our minds with all the mindless drivel, it comes across as highly amusing. Well done for getting inside the head of a teenager and making her sound human. I would recommend this anyone who likes a lot of action spiced with dead pan humour.

A breath of fresh air thriller
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 25, 2017Verified Purchase
Following 2 books by other authors that i failed to finish this book was a breath of fresh air for me. I literally could not put it down . I messaged Rob to say I had to FORCE myself to stop as I had some gardening chores to do. This was a fast paced thriller with a twist . A heart transplant 16 year old girl whose donor heart talked to her. Action packed all the way from beginning to end . I have read other titles of Robs including Breaker and can honestly say I have loved reading every one. It's nice to have a British author of this caliber amongst my favourites. Already starting the second book .

Really enjoyed it

This is not really my sort of book, but the first issue was free so I gave it a shot.
I really enjoyed reading it, it was funny in parts as the main character was a teenage girl. It draws you in as you read and you find you want to know why she is thinking and acting like she is after a heart op. Can wait to buy the other books in the series. Thanks Rob Aspinall for a good read.
