About the Author
Alison L. Perry graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in Psychology, but she has always been a storyteller at heart. Born and raised in Texas, she refuses to live anywhere else, currently residing in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs. She is a football enthusiast, music lover, Startbucks addict, office supply junkie, and spends most of her time daydreaming, writing, and perfecting the art of sarcasm. After spending eighteen years surviving the corporate world, she left its security behind to chase her dream of writing.

I felt two ways about this book. I hated the romantic aspect. A burrito has more complexity than the male lead. He had no personality, no likes or dislikes. He wasn't a real person, just sea green eyes and smoky kisses. Sadie was almost too real and you were completely caught up in teen misery. I loved the premise, Oved Sadie, and I'd be reading book 2 right now except for the screw me over cliffhanger. If you like cliffies, then this book is worth wading past the useless Kade love story. I feel an author should be honest and upfront about this obvious money grabbing ploy. I won't be reading anymore. Good luck, Sadie. Wish you well.

I was SO excited when I saw Alison was releasing the sequel. I fell in love with book one, Caught In Between. My hands were ITCHING to get a hold of a copy. My husband laughed at me, I looked like I had just won the Olympic Trials.
Book two starts off with Sadie's first day in human school. It is tough enough to start a new school, but having to deal with unruly fangs... oh, the joy. Then, the "it" girls go after her... in a "good" way at first, then they turn on her very quickly. For those in school, and those of us who survived it, we ALL know THOSE girls. Everything you do, say or imply gets twisted and turned on you. Sadie's troubles from her old school prepared her well for dealing with these pests. Her reaction to take them down off their high horses had me waving hands yelling, "preach it, girl!"
Alison did a wonderful job of weaving the story lines and integrating new twists into the plot. Pen makes a return and drops some serious cliffhanger clues that left Sadie (and me) frustrated and nervous. She was so cryptic.... granted she is a thousands-year-old vampire... but still. Give the girl a break. I don't want to spoil it, but the information and events that followed left me wondering why Sadie wasn't rocking back and forth in a corner. I would have been. Holy cow.
Sadie showed that she was resilient and thoughtful through those trials. She showed growth, which you all KNOW is a major point in my book. She did meet some new allies that I thought really stole the show. Its really important to have strong secondary characters and I loved Maddie and Harper. Molly was still a major player, even though she wasn't at the same school. Alison showered us with a wide range of characters that was refreshing. Some writers make an ensemble cast sound all alike. Perry let each character shine in their own right.
Cam was a new character that I thought was very intriguing. And let's face it, he sounded yummy. Alison kept us on our toes with him, unveiling new layers and surprises. Kade was another surprise. I didn't know what to make of him by the end of the book, and at several points I wanted to seriously give him a piece of my mind.
Having a novel with so many variables could make for a sloppy mess, but Alison wove it together so well. I really felt Sadie's emotions, the nervousness and shyness that was new, even to her.
All I will say about the ending is, "noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!" It was a MAJOR cliffhanger that had me up the rest of the night thinking about all the ramifications and outcomes. Let's just say I will be in a state of torture until book three comes out.
This was a faster pace than the first book. Alison took us on a journey through regular adolescent trials, mysterious characters, suspenseful turns and it ended up a fantastic ride. I can't wait for book three, and I know if you enjoy contemporary fiction, vampires, or mysteries that you will love this series. Well done, Alison!

...however, it just ended! in the middle! and now I am suppose to buy the second book. I do not like cliff hangers, even though I really enjoyed reading "In Between". The story was different, from most vampire books, and even though I am well past young-adult, I could understand how Sadie felt about being different. I read well into the night and again the next morning till I was jolted, by the "not" ending. The star value fell from a 4 (4 1/2 really) to a 3 because of the "not" ending. I won't be purchasing another of the series.

Caught in Between is q good story about a teen who doesn't fit in no matter what she tries. Unfortunately, despite all of the material on Sadie, her friend and boyfriend are not well developed. Why did Sadie and Molly become best friends? What is Kade’s deal? I think despite this aspect of the novel, it is still a good book for teens and pre-teens to read because they can see that there is a place that they fit in they just have to find it and not give up. Without giving up plot points there are also some other things that happen in the story that left me asking, “What just happened and why?”. This story is like that movie or tv show that is not the best thing on tv but you can’t help but watch it because you know what it is like to be a misfit. The lack of development of the people important to Sadie and the holes in the plot are why I gave this 3 stars.
I got a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this original vampire story about a teenage girl who didn't fit in with her family or the other vampires around her. It was so different from other vampire stories with vampires graceful and that have so much power instead we find our main character klutzy, doesn't drink blood and doesn't look like other vampires. Even though I enjoyed that she was different the character did tend to complain throughout book and be down on herself. It wasn't until a little bit later in the book she gets some confidence but the book has enough mystery as to why she's different than other vampires that made me not want to put the book down and to move on to the 2nd book which was even better.

Fans of Twilight's "love at first encounter" aspect, and Edward's love and appreciation for the imperfect Bella Swan, will adore the romance in this vampire book. The "vampire failure," Sadie, doesn't fit in with her own kind. She's easy to feel bad for and yet root for, which is what great characters are all about. As the book neared the end, I found myself wondering how SO MUCH could still need to be wrapped up... there's a second book. I'm dying to know what Molly meant by, "I've known you since we were tiny wee ones waiting for our families to *" (I'm not going to finish that quote, as I can't tell if that's a spoiler or not). This book was fun to read.

I actually like this idea of vampire academy even though Sadie didn’t last there for long and I like that she’s different. Her flirting with Kade wasn’t really convincing to me. I felt like there was something missing for me to be invested in this relationship. I’m interested to see what happens with Sadie in human high school.

I found this to be your average awkward teen (vamp in this case or maybe not) who finds some confidence in herself and a hot boyfriend. Generally the kind of story I like. However whilst we had the very basic elements there was no suspense, no surprises and no desire to read the remainder of the series.

Quite accurate depictions of a 16-year-old. Writing is mostly great, and so is the storyline. Loads of comma splices and fused sentences, though. Missing vocative commas before and sometimes after names.
