I am not sure if everyone in the review section read the same book as I did because clearly we have very different opinions.
When I read the synopsis of the book, I immediately thought about giving it a try because it inspired mystery, adventure and drama. Once I started reading the book, I actually liked how it was written. Lena, the main character, is the one narrating the story through her point of view, so it was very easy for me to imagine everything she was telling. I also enjoyed the style of writing of the author, but once the story kept going I was not sure where it was headed.
Since Lena meet a group of people with powers just like hers, I thought it was going to be a fun and interesting story, however, the story was ONLY focused on Lena and her sudden love attraction to one particular member of the group: Flint. The begginning of the story was fast paced. Lena meets the group and she has to accept the idea that there are more like her. At this point, I thought she would start forming relationships with the members of the group, you know like friendship, but that hardly happens. Towards the middle of the story, absolutely nothing interesting happened. Lena keeps just babbling about her and Flint, and how she feels about him. Then I was not sure if I was reading an erotic book.
The way the book is organized, in my opinion, is bad. There are not plot twists, there is not dialogue between the characters that are meaningful to the story, there is not fun...There are great characters in this story with their own fun personalities, but unfortunately they are not well developed. I struggled to finish the book, but I really wanted to finish it because like I said, the concept of the book sounded very interesting! It is a shame that it was not well written.
I am not sure if I will continue reading the trilogy, but as for this book I am disappointed. I thought it was going to be better.

Well, I did read to the end but it was a struggle. I really get tired of 'strong, silent' type of heroes. Flint was a jealous and controlling character who was initially quite awful to Lena - ignoring her to a rude extreme. And I felt that the sexual attraction/tension was overdone. Although the book explained the background of the 8 main characters by the end, it still felt a bit like a cliffhanger - and I really couldn't be bothered to read any more by this author to find out what happened next.

I enjoyed this book much more than I had thought I would. It's definitely more geared towards the YA genre, especially with regard to how the characters resolve issues and behave towards one another. The plot was intriguing and I was interested in learning more about the how and why of what happened to Lena and the group. The author did tend to use the same descriptions over and over for certain characters (spice, wood and tangerines) but I liked how the plot kept moving and the information kept flowing, but not too fast! I got the first book as a freebie on Amazon and then went to purchase the other two and spent the weekend reading them.

I’ve just binge-read through both the prelude and first book in The Lost Children Trilogy, so here’s my 2-for-1 review.
I downloaded Awakened, the prequel to Krista Street’s The Lost Children Trilogy, from one of the freebie sites. I don’t even remember which one and the only reason for downloading it was its intriguing cover. Those who know me also know that’s “not my style”. If my luck held up as well as it did in this case, however, I will definitely need to be doing it more often. Awakened gives the original backstory for how the series’ lead, Lena, wakes up in an alleyway with no memories, a strange tattoo and a supernatural ability. It then follows her early days after that. I really loved the presentation of Lena so much that I couldn’t stop at the book’s end and had to get - and immediately read - the actual series book 1 as well. That book is Forgotten, which tells how Lena finds others like her, and discovers they’re being hunted. This is incredibly fun stuff. Full of action, suspense, a multitude of superhuman powers, and so much more. Great world-building, a wonderful cast of characters and great plots forming what is shaping up to be a truly neat series arc. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - these two books definitely deserve it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend them. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

If you liked The Hunger Games and the Divergent series you must read the trilogy by Krista Street; Forgotten: The Lost Children!
Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019Verified Purchase
Like the best of the YA Adventure series that have been written in the last 15 years or so, the “Forgotten” trilogy by Krista Street has a wonderful central story driven by well-defined, interesting, and likable characters whose individual interwoven story-lines all come together nicely and provide something for readers of all ages to enjoy.
You have a small group of young adults, mostly in their early twenties, who are pulled and pushed together by some indescribable voice/feeling in their head from many different parts of the country after waking up with amnesia. Who are they? Who were they? What happened to them before four months ago? Why do they all feel compelled to head towards the same destination, and what are they supposed to do when they finally all get together?
There is a love story, lots of action scenes at a huge cattle ranch, plenty of suspense to keep you guessing, and the book is extremely well written. The author takes the time to flesh out each character’s, their flaws, quirks, idiosyncrasies, and yes, everyone has some sort of hidden talent or power.
Once you start reading you will be so engrossed in the story and the people, before you know it you have been reading for hours. Loved the book. I teach 4th through 8th graders and I know all of them would enjoy it as well as many of my adult friends. Check it out!

I quite liked the idea behind the book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 16, 2018Verified Purchase
I quite liked the idea behind the book, but for me, the pace was far too slow and there was far too much angsting about Flint by Lena - the waves of energy coming off him and the overpowering feelings she had got quite tiresome, quite soon.
That said, I liked the general premise of the book and it was an easy read.

A cut above

Forgotten was a cut above similar speculative fiction. The writing was gorgeous, the world-building highly assured, and the bond between Flint and Lena (an instant, inexplicable attraction that usually has me rolling my eyes at its improbability) was intriguing and utterly convincing. I'm really glad there's more of this world for me to lose myself in!

Excellent

This book came up as an Amazon freebie, so as I do with numerous others (sometimes successfully, frequently... not), I thought I'd give it a whirl.
I'm so glad I did! The plot is original and enthralling.
The characters are well drawn, and the location beautifully described.
I've just bought number two in the series, paying Real Money, and believe me, that doesn't happen very often!
Can't wait to start reading to find out what happens to our Lost Children when they go to investigate their origins.

Well this is different. Refreshing new storyline, not sure where to place it, sci-fi, paranormal, mystery, suspence. Good build up for the characters, and back story so we can see how everyone arrived at the present time and place. Greatly looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

I really enjoyed this book, great characters and the story is intriguing. The characters are likeable and easily imagined, I immediately got the second in the series and signed up for more!
