I openly admit that when I first heard Gal Gadot got cast as Wonder Woman, I was a bit disappointed. While she definitely has the looks for the role, I really hadn't seen any movies from her that gave me confidence that she could bring some legitimate depth to the character. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong and boy was I wrong on this one, BIG TIME!! This is without question DC's best DCEU film to date and that largely had to do with the acting performance Gadot gave. By the time the credits rolled, I had a completely new level of respect for Gadots acting ability, not to mention her physical attributes and abilities. Gadot gives an incredibly nuanced performance as Wonder Woman. In fact, IMO this is the best female performance to date in a super hero film and that is really a big compliment as I think both Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen give great performances as Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.
While every aspect of this film was outstanding, it was ultimately Gadot's performance that really put it over the top for me. In partiular, her facial expressions were just fantastic all throughout this film. Some great examples include the scene where she first meets Chris Pine's character, Steve Trevor, after dragging him out of the water, the scene where she charges the machine gun nest and deflects the bullet fire with her armguards, the look she gives the final solider she shield bashed out the window, the scene where she see's snow for the first time, and the last moments of the final fight scene where she is watching the lighting bounce around her armguards without hurting her. I really had no idea that Gadot has this level of nuance in her acting ability. After seeing this film, I would go as far as saying Gadot was literally born to play this role as she really does an exceptional job at bringing Wonder Woman to life on the big screen. I just have a completely new level of respect for Gadot. She nailed this role just as well as Robert Downey Jr nailed Iron Man and Chris Evans nailed Captain America.
Thankfully, Gadot's amazing performance is backed up with the best script we have seen to date with the DCEU, an absolutely amazing directing job by Patty Jenkins, a beautiful job by the director of photography, and a supporting cast that was absolutely perfect. In particular, I really loved Connie Nielsen's performance as Hippolyta and Robin Wright's performance as Antiope. There really are no negative aspects of this film. The overall tone of the film is just a huge step forward from the far too serious tone that previous DCEU films have had, which is actually my biggest issue with the previous DCEU movies we have seen to date. It just does a great job balancing the more serious scenes and action scenes with the more comedic moments and more light hearted character driven moments. Again, this is EASILY DC's best DCEU film to date in this regard. Had DC stuck with the more serious tone that we have seen with previous films, I don't think this film would have been anywhere near as good as it was. I really hope that the overall tone that this film has will be the kind of tone DC aims for with all of their future DCEU films. I don't have a problem with superhero films wanting to take things more seriously, but you really do need at least some comedic moments and more light hearted character driven scenes to break up all the action scenes and more serious exposition scenes.
And I have to say that setting this film during World War I was just a briliant move. Were so used to seeing super hero's with modern settings that the contrast of Wonder Woman with a WWI battlefield made for some exceptional scenes and it just offered the perfect backdrop for the film. The glass plate picture that was taken by the large format photographer after they freed the town, and was sent to Diana in the beginning of the film by Bruce Wayne, is just a perfect example of that beautiful contrast. Seeing Wonder Woman's shiny armor and sword and shield while she's climbing a rickety wooden ladder out of the trench during that machine gun nest scene was just a truly spectacular scene.
Honestly, I could go on and on and on as there were so many amazing aspects of this film. On top of the aspects I have already touched on you also had beautiful set design, brilliant costume design (especially with Wonder Woman's outfit and the Amazon's armor), a great soundtrack, amazing action choreography, and just beautiful lighting and attention to detail. This will go on to become one of the all time great super hero films and I am really looking forward to the sequel, especially since Patty Jenkins is coming back to direct again.
Bottom line - DC absolutely knocked this one out of the park and it ultimately gave the DCEU a big boost and a much needed change in overall tonality. Again, I sincerely hope this is the kind of tonality we can expect from DC in the future. IMO, DC has a much stronger roster of characters than Marvel so its really a shame that DC has struggled to find its footing with the DCEU. Thankfully there was no struggling with Wonder Woman. This is just an exceptional super hero film from start to finish. Its hard to believe it took this long for Wonder Woman to finally get a solo film, but DC made sure the wait was well worth it. Gadot really was born to play this role. Just an absolutely brilliant super hero film.

Diana Prince è un eroina incredibilmente ben concepita, guerriera ma pacifista, apparentemente ingenua ma saggia, coraggiosa ma empatica, e molto molto altro; potete dunque immaginare la difficoltà nel ricreare una trasposizione cinematografica in grado di rendere merito ad una delle più grandi icone dei fumetti.
E secondo me, la regista Patty Jenkins ci è riuscita. Il film ha una storia molto lineare, ma nonostante questo, è in grado di trasmettere alla perfezione le origini del personaggio e di affrontare tematiche importanti e quanto mai attuali.
La parte iniziale del film è una gioa per gli occhi, un'incredibile rappresentazione di Themyscira, degna del nome isola del "paradiso". Ottimamente rappresentate anche le amazzoni, in grado di trasmettere forza e indipendenza.
La seconda parte della pellicola è anche meglio, frutto di una regia ottimamente incentrata sul punto di vista di Diana, catapultata in un mondo con evidenti disparità di genere, usanze brutali (per fare un esempio interessante, è bello notare la faccia di wonder woman quando vede le pellicce di volpe con la faccia ancora attaccata) e un lato oscuro dell'uomo che forse non è per nulla il frutto di Ares. Bellissime le frecciate che di tanto in tanto vengono lanciate, a ricordare che nessuno è innocente; il discorso con il "capo" davanti al fuoco è quanto mai l'esempio più eclatante, di un uomo che non sa dove altro andare perché l'ultima guerra ha tolto tutto al suo popolo.
Il finale l'ho trovato semplicemente fantastico, perché nonostante Diana avesse tutte le ragioni per voltare le spalle agli uomini, quest'ultimi gli ricordano che c'è ancora del buono per cui vale la pena combattere. In tal senso i dialoghi con Steve sono sempre molto interessanti e sembrano accompagnare la crescita emotiva di Diana, fino all'epico e conclusivo discorso che ne rappresenta l'apice.
Ho visto la versione italiana al cinema, e quella originale su blue-ray, solitamente preferisco di gran lunga la versione originale, ma devo dire che questa volta i doppiatori italiani (già fenomenali) si sono superati, e dunque, a mio parere la versione originale e quella doppiata in italiano si equivalgono.
La vera chicca però sono i contenuti speciali. Al cinema si vede tutto e i dettagli non solo fanno la differenza, sono fonadmentali! Vedere come sono state realizzate le scene e la cura con cui il film è stato creato, è semplicemente fantastico.
La prima parte del film è stata girata in gran parte sulla costiera amalfitana e l'isola di Temyscira è ispirata a Matera.
La foto da cui tutto ha inizio è stata scattata prima ancora che girassero il film ai tempi di Batman vs Superman, con lo stesso metodo che si sarebbe usato nel 1919, con Zack Snyder che fa da comparsa nelle vesti di un soldato nello sfondo.
Si può vedere la dedizione con cui ogni vestito è stato creato e la cura con cui gli scenografi hanno preparato le locations, la complessità nel ricreare ogni scena. Girare una scena ad una stazione è un conto, ma per farlo sembrare autentico serve comprare un treno del 1914, o ancora una scena che sembra piccola e semplice in realtà necessita di tre ore in cui Trafalgar Square viene chiusa per le riprese. Le amazzoni non sono semplice comparse, sono donne allenate per esserlo, che si sono dovute massacrare di lavoro in palestra nei mesi antecedenti alle riprese. Insomma... se vi piace il cinema in generale, i contenuti speciali sono davvero strepitosi.
Sono inoltre presenti delle scene in versione estesa ed una del tutto inedita che poteva benissimo essere usata come scena post-credits, che personalmente ho apprezzato molto.
Penso che un film del genere non avrebbe potuto avere una regista migliore di Patty Jenkins.
Inoltre penso sia giusto spendere due parole per Chris Pine, nel film mi è sembrato per Diana un po' come Virgilio per Dante, una sorta di guida nel mondo degli uomini; ruolo tutt'altro che semplice, ma che è riuscito ad interpretare in modo molto convincente, andando di fatto ad alzare la qualità della pellicola.
Mentre per quanto riguarda Gal Gadot... beh, lei è Wonder Woman!!!
Amazon come sempre perfetto, avevo fatto il pre-ordine e mi è arrivato il giorno dopo alla disponibilità del prodotto. Allego inoltre qualche foto dello steelbook, robusto, semplice ma allo stesso tempo esteticamente ben realizzato.

Magnífica Película. Maravillosa presentación en Digibook.
Estoy contentísima con esta compra. Para mí, el Digibook es una auténtica maravilla. Lleva una portada lenticular con Diana en traje de gala y en su traje de batalla característico como Wonder Woman. El librito que lleva dentro, está traducido al español y lleva unas fotos preciosas. De esas que te quedas un rato embobada mirándolas. Una maravilla de presentación. Viene con los dos discos muy bien protegidos en un soporte de plástico. El Blu Ray 3D y el Blu Ray simple que es el que yo quería.Magnífica Película. Maravillosa presentación en Digibook.Luna

La imagen muy nítida, la única pega que le pongo es que el sonido Español es 5.1 y el Inglés 7.1 ¿por qué nuestro doblaje se escucha dos puntos por debajo? Se nota mucho cuando cambias de idioma, en español suena muy bajito y tengo que subir el volumen de mi TV. También decir que las amazonas no hablan bien el español, tienen un acento extraño... (De esto ya me percaté en el cine. Muy poco profesional el doblaje. La película gana muchos puntos en VO). Por cierto, otro fallo es que sólo hay subtítulos en inglés para los discapacitados auditivos que describen todo, no sólo el diálogo. Pero bueno, más vale eso que nada. Me gusta perfeccionar mi Inglés viendo películas en Versión Original subtituladas en Inglés. Y más cuando en VOS ganan muchos puntos, como esta.
En definitiva, muy buena edición. Muy buena película que disfrutará todo fan de las películas basadas en cómics y especialmente las fans, ya que es por fin la historia de una heroína. Según tengo entendido, la primera heroína de la historia del cómic, creada en 1941.
Esta es la primera película de DC/Warner que adquiero porque realmente me gustó en el cine. Las anteriores eran malísimas. Espero que sigan por este camino y nos den más alegrías en el futuro.
Por último, dar las gracias a Amazon y a Correos Expréss por traerme la película a la puerta de mi casa, ayer día 11 de Octubre, dos días antes de su salida a la venta. Se agradece esta profesionalidad.
