Dacian’s refusal to learn more about his power, and its potential, was an interesting character trait in book 1, for our hero. In book 3, it’s an irritating, negligent, and reckless attitude that going to get him, his friends, and his loved ones hurt &/or killed. Why can this character not be allowed to recognize that he is more than what his choices have led him to become? Why should I care about a hero who refuses to learn to harness the talent that he’s been given, and who throws a temper tantrum every time his allies, or the ink network, need him to actually rise up to the level of his potential?

This author continues to deliver book after book of incredible paranormal fantasy! With each book she weaves and expands the incredible world that she has created. I love so many of these people, so many of them feel like family at this point. Keirn and Dacian are beyond amazing and there are so many fascinating people in these books that there are many many series worth of stories for the author to bring to life. I love it when I discover an author who writes so well that reading becomes something more... more like breathing the story in and living it. I am amazed sometimes by the speed of my reading how effortless it becomes! I also love the fact that the author's books center on chosen families, composed of people who have been hurt and rejected by their own or by society. I will never get enough of reading Ms, Evans books and once I finish everything she has published I will pounce on every new book she releases. She is defintely one of my top ten favorite fantasy authors!

I read this all in one sitting, it was so exciting! It was touching to see Dacian & Keirn’s relationship progressing. However, this is not a book about explicit sex scenes. It’s truer to say that this is a fantasy thriller that happens to have a gay protagonist than it is to say that it is a gay romance. In fact, that’s one of the cool things about it. It’s something different in the LGBTQ+ world of publishing. Highly recommended if you value story and chemistry over explicit sex.

Ink Bound by Holly Evans is a terrific series. Great fantasy, action, has shifters, magicians, magic tattoos, elves, and other creatures. In this book our magically tattooist and friends are trying to save captive would-be slaves. If you have a thing against LBGTQ, don't read because the main characters are gay and the romance is very touching in all three books. If you still have a problem with it in this day and age, get a life. This book has action, magic, wonderful fantasy, great characters, excellent dialogue, and romance. Great job.

Dacian is back, still living with his merry band and reluctantly working for Fein. He's not happy doing these odd jobs of 'spying' -- The latest is hanging out at a tattoo magician club. He doesn't gain any friends there but connections. Mostly seedy but at least he's doing what Fein wants and is able to gather information. Along the way Dacian is forced to own a feral wolf shifter. .. . And that opens up a new character to interact with all the others in that crowded apartment. Most of the story revolves around Dacian and Tala. And since Tala is a feral there's a deeper look at what they are, how the magic community sees them, their uses, and how they're exploited.
Dacian isn't happy with the ink network. He isn't happy with Fein and wants to get back to tattooing. He has a feral wolf shifter he doesn't want. As the story deepens, the underworld is in an uproar and Fein's rule of it is under attack. Of course Dacian is dragged in. . . . Yes there is action. Yes Dacian finally admits he loves his elf friend and past lover Keirn. By that way, that reveal was so quick and glossed over. There wasn't a depth to their feelings for each other and no time for romance. It doesn't help that Keirn is in the background and Tala is pushed forward. Dacian's first thought is always for Tala, even before Keirn's. It was just odd.
These may be spoilers or not - Things that stuck out and made this a three star review:
Leona pops up and has an interesting story and purpose and then she's dropped.
There's the node temple and the blood bath there and no conclusion.
I did wonder when Caiden had time to have a relationship with Isa. Talk about another odd relationship.
Purpose of the collars. I can guess.
Who made the collars? Who is behind all this?
If all of that last fight was about the crime boss overthrow or was it? A lot of information was tossed out and then the story just ends.
No idea what happens to Dacian's ink warrior.
Are shadow walkers taking over the city? A new faction? Why? What?
The purpose was to free those captured and collared . . . Again, no follow up on what happens to them.
So. Are the factions done with taking over the city? Well? But let's not think about that and think about a vacation.
What's written is five stars but what's left out is three. I've enjoyed the series but I'm not sure where it's headed. Dacian is now a pawn and multiple people know his background and what he can do. - Dan's Wife

Each of the entries in this series just get better. Dacian and his growing group of Ink World friends are poised on the brink of a nasty criminal underworld dealing in slavery and abuse of beings with weaker magic. It is going to take some soul searching and maybe getting a bit dirty to make a difference. Great characters!

Wow! Dacien and company are finding that Fein really is a good guy, but it's still difficult to be on his side. Lots of discoveries, fighting for what's right, and helping the less fortunate.

A reluctant hero forced to make hard choices

Ink Bound follows Dacian, the ink magician, as he is dragged ever-deeper into the criminal magical underworld of Prague. Despite the insistence of several of his friends that Fein is more than a crime lord, Dacian has doubts about how involved he wants to be in Fein’s activities, and the choices he’s forced into to help shut down a ring of blood tattooists doesn’t do anything to lay those doubts to rest. When he ends up the bound owner of a wolf feral, Dacian gets a rude awakening to the status of ferals in the magical community, and begins to understand a little more of Fein’s position.
The Ink Born series is a wonderful showcase for author Holly Evans’s talent for utterly plausible world-building. With a fascinatingly original range of magical skills and manifestations, Ink Bound can in no way be categorised as just another urban fantasy adventure, but rather creates its own template. The development of the character of Dacian through this series is also a pleasure to follow. I did find that this book dragged the notion of other magical networks having their own equivalents to Dacian tantalisingly under the reader’s nose and then essentially deep-sixed it; a shame, as it opened up some interesting possibilities. However, aside from that minor frustration, this book is technically flawless and a highly enjoyable read.
