Ok, the starting point for the heroin was not bad: dangerous fighter laying low and trying to avoid notice, lots of back story. As is required these days, she is half-fae and half something else. Yada yada yada. Then the plot gets started and she is drafted into a shadow fae special forces, where the organizations KILLS five out of six recruits, because ...? Then there is silent guy, who is dark and shadowy and mysterious and charismatic and sexy. Except he does not talk, apparently because he is an idiot. Strong, silent type I guess. MC goes along with the whole stupid plot because she has feelings for another character and is easily manipulated. There is nothing I would call Romance, but there is magically induced lust. I skimmed to the end and was pleased to see at least some minor plot issues resolved.
Unfortunately, I looked at the descriptions of the next few books, and the characters go right back into the same stupid plot with effectively nothing resolved. I was willing to wade through one book, but these characters are definitely not work another slog. I will give up on the series.

I have yet to read anything by C.N. Crawford that I haven’t loved, so I wasn’t worried at all about liking this one - I just couldn’t wait to find out WHY I’d love it :p
I don’t mind stand-alone novels, but what I really love are interconnected books. Having three or four books to cover a story arc is just what I like best, but having several story arcs that connect is even better. In this case, the fact that we’re brought back to the Demons of Fire & Night universe and have the connection to previous books! There are guest appearances by Bael and Caine, and little things that happened in their books. You don’t have to have read any of the previous books to enjoy Court of Shadows, but if you HAVE read the previous books you’ll smile when you remember little things. Or maybe that’s just me.
Arianna is an excellent lead with a believable blend of skill and bravery tempered with uncertainty and fear. She isn’t obnoxious and over the top in terms of attitude. We’re given hints of her past before the gladiator arena, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Ruadan. The silent spell-slinger. It’s amazing how much you can learn about a character who doesn’t even talk, but he’s fully fleshed out and never feels flat. I can’t wait to see future interactions between them.
I also have to mention that we’re introduced to Melusine, a secondary character with not a lot of page time. I really, really hope we’ll see more of her (possibly her own book?!) one day, because she became my favorite support character ever.

I’ve only read one other book of Crawford’s but it wasn’t my favorite so I was hesitant; though the description and cover were captivating. I also haven’t read many fae books, but this one was so unique and different that it captivated me pretty quickly. The concept was a bit cliché with supernaturals outlawed, the main character hiding her abilities and past, until she gets outed to the Knights and is forced to train with them. The concept that the previous 6 trainees have died at the hands of her trainer is quite ominous, and I wish they had explained it in the sense that those 6 had also been blackmailed by Baleros and that’s why they failed and lost their lives, but that wasn’t the case. It was still an intriguing book and concept; one I’m interested to pursue to book 2.

A world where the humans live and are guarded from supernatural beings by the Fae. Here the Knights of the Shadow Fae protect humans from magic beings who are supposed to remain in their own worlds but more often then not the enter the human realm. The Shadow Fae are feared by all humans and magical beings. This is the world Arianna lives in, just trying to survive. Half Fae and half something else if her magic is detected death is what she will face. One day it happens and instead of being dead, she is now a novice going through the tests with 5 other full Fae candidates. Only one can become one of the Shadow Fae knights. She liked her life, she was free but that doesn't matter now, if she doesn't win, she will be killed. Along with threats from former master and her growing attraction to her Shadow Fae master can she survive and find her freedom again. Great story, good character development and lots of sword fights and magic. A very entertaining read. I read it in one sitting and can't wait to start the next book.

I loved this book. I am not surprised since it was written by C.N Crawford. The ability to make fully fleshed out characters is one reason I keep reading. Arianna is sassy but she uses it to hide her insecurity. She is a good fighter and brave. We get just a glimpse into her past. I want you know what makes her tick.
Ruadana is a big part of the story. Yet he is silent. This could have been a problem with the character but he is well fleshed out. I look forward to finding out his connection to Beloros. a

The setting for this book, The Institute, is very gothic in a cool, modern way. Even the descriptions given about the surrounding city is incredible.
The plot is fast paced but not too much though. It definitely holds your attention with lots of action, some hilarious one liners, and the chemistry between the two main characters is HOT!!!
The characters, especially Arianna and Ruadan, come to life on the pages. She is fierce and sassy and bold. He is silent, sulking, and mysterious. She has a well written inclusive backstory. Him, we know nothing about, and don't care because hello hotness!!
I thought it was a really good, very entertaining book that I will most likely read again.

With every CN Crawford series I finish, I think it is impossible to like the next more than the last. The writing duo has proved me wrong again. I couldn't put it down and am so glad the next book is out already! Arianna has already replaced Ursula as my favorite CN Crawford heroine! The fact that both Bael and Caine had cameos made it even better!

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! probably some of C N Crawford’s best work to date.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! After the last series of books which were a fabulous series and probably some of C N Crawford’s best work to date I wasn’t expecting this new book to even compare in the slightest but how wrong I was!!!!! An amazing new heroine with some wonderful and diverse Characters plus cameo appearances of well-loved people from other books set in the same world. Yet again this book although set in the same worlds manages to capture the imagination in a new way and adds another dimension to a world that we already know and love, everything is easily visualised, and you are drawn in to the storey from the first few pages. I was hooked with the first book, drawn in even further with the second boo and an impatiently waiting for the third instalment. This is a series that I will happily read again when the next book comes out to maximise the enjoyment

I really like the way Ms Crawford crafts her world's. Each series are different with completely different worlds, rules and magic. I don't like spoilers so all I can say is read this book and everything else she writes.

Told from Ariannas POV. The storyline was too static for me and didn't really impress. I became very bored with it. Ruadan, the male lead is a bit of a bore. He's taken a vow of silence so doesn't speak.
Not sure if I will read the rest of the series. Sexual content.
