Her Ugly Monster by Kaylee Rymer is a fairytale, a star-crossed love story, a fantasy.
Ivora may appear to have grown up in an idyllic setting; two loving parents, a little cottage, little goats and other animals to love and care for. But when she travels into Chars-town for more paint, you find out her reality when she comes across young girls her age that bully her.
Weegel is a Worcog, a thief, and an opportunist. Raised by humans, he is subjected to cruelty from his own bully’s, the townsfolk where he lives with his “mother” and “grandfather”; beatings and taunting that finally leads him to leave his family behind. His goal: find where he belongs, find more Worcogs like himself.
The past never really remains in the past, and Ivora’s catches up to her, sending her on a wild race from danger to a future her mother sends her to.
This is my first encounter with Kaylee Rymer’s work, and won’t be the last. The world she’s created is full and colorful, and the characters step off the page and burrow into your heart. This story has a little bit of something for everyone, and I can’t wait to start the next. 4.5 stars rounded to 5.

Her Ugly Monster #1 - This is my first read by this author and I like it. I found the author young or naive with some of her story. Horses have fur; walking in sewer, then picking up her dress and letting the sea/sewer water splash her; Hardware floor; among other things that stand out as unrealistic; yes, this is a fairytale but....
I do like the characters; I found them likeable and interesting for their ages. They're doing the best they can considering their circumstances. The story has a good pace even though every once in awhile the descriptions aren't clear, but that's where imagination helps. There is humor throughout the story.
I found His Beautiful Princess on Booksprout and found Ugly in my library. It's an interesting enough story to continue to book 2. This book needs editing for word usage, attention to detail and proper use of titles. 4*
His Beautiful Princess #2 - Good continuation from the first book. Story moves at a good pace with twists and action throughout. More good characters are added, along with the not so nice; a good variety of types. While not quite a cliffhanger, there's more to the story. 4*

I was a little worried at first that this was going to be some sort of Romeo and Juliet or Beauty and the Beast kind of story but it was not really that at all. This is the story of Ivora, a young girl who loses everything and has to find herself. It it also a story of a misfit that is trying to find his way in life. There are several laugh out loud moments in the story and there are a lot of awkward moments. Yes, there are some mushy parts but there is a lot of adventure and humor and mystery. I read most of this in one night and I will be starting part two real soon. It reminded me a little of Robert Asprin and the Myth series. Definitely worth reading and you can't beat the price.

Weegel and Ivora are opposites; and you know what they say about opposites! This is a refreshing and unique take on taking people at “face value”. What you see isn’t always what you get, and boy is that true in this fantastical tale!
Loved every minute of it! Well written with well-developed characters, a strong plot line and twists and turns with unexpected surprises. Great book!

It may of took me two days to read it but I loved it; the only reason I put it down was so I could go to bed and get rid of the migraine that made it hard for me to read.
I can’t wait to get me hands on the next one and devour it. ☺️

I enjoyed reading this book. The adventures of Weegel and Ivora were enjoyable since it felt like I was there, although some of the adventures were full of mixed emotions. I look forward to reading the next book.

True beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, it's found in the soul. A great mixture of magical events mixed with normal, both creatures and landscape. The story gives promises of adventures yet to come and,as with life, a mixture of horrors and happiness.
