For those that are fans of Jaymin's Supernatural Prison Series you are in for a real treat as Supernatural Academy is set in the same world and even brings you characters from Supernatural Prison (ahem - Louis)!! If you haven't read the Supernatural Prison series you don't need to in order to enjoy this series but I highly recommend reading them as they will blow your mind!

Maddi is a force to be reckoned with - she is sassy, strong, and above all - is true to who she is. Not knowing anything about her supernatural abilities she is thrown into the Supernatural Academy with just her wits. She learns she is a supernatural but no on knows which type she is as her powers are blocked. She finds some amazing friends, never backs down from trouble (ahem mean girls), and learns she loves finding out about being a supernatural! While learning her place in this new world Maddie also finds herself drawn to the mysterious and forbidden hot boys of the school and feels more at home than she ever did.

Jaymin does a stellar job of developing the characters, sheds a new light to the mysterious Altantians, and weaves the fabulous characters of the Supernatural Prison series in without making you feel like you are lost in the story.

This is the first book of this series and I cannot wait for the next book and see where Maddie and her crew go next!

A promising lead in to a new series

3.5 stars. This book was hard for me because I loved the characters and I loved the plot and the storyline but I didn't love the execution. The writing felt a tad choppy and disjointed at times and it didn't flow as organically as I would have liked. There were a few parts that I skimmed just to get back to something more engaging and captivating. It just felt like something was slightly missing, like just barely out of reach. Whatever that is would have catapulted this book to a greater level.

After reading the Supernatural Prison series (book 1: Dragon Marked) and the Curse of the Gods series (book 1: Trickery) and loving both, I was super excited to see this book come out. I dropped everything and bought it when it released. Maybe my expectations were too high? I don't know. It just wasn't everything that I hoped for.

That being said, this is a very promising lead in to the new series. I thought the book was interesting and creative and as I mentioned before, I really, really love the characters; main and secondary. I will still recommend Supernatural Academy: Year One to my urban fantasy loving friends and I look forward to book two and year of the purple .

Also, for those who hate cliffhangers, no worries, this book resolves the major conflict from the story and it reads as complete, though there will clearly be a continuation of the story as there is more yet to come with everything that has been happening. You don't need to wait for the next book to come out before starting this one. I would suggest grabbing it up now and meeting these awesome characters and exploring their world at the academy.

Oh and final thought: Shout out to whoever designed this cover. It's gorgeous and totally fits the book.

I loved everything about this book. Maddie had been on her own for quite some time. She looked out for number one and definitely had the inner strength to make sure she and any underdogs were fine. Before her mother's death that left her alone, she'd decided every year on her birthday... Which happened to fall on New Year's, to change her hair color. This year was the year of PINK! It just gave her that little extra something. Out of nowhere she meets a woman named Leah that puts magical binding bracelets on her. NOT GOOD as it triggers immense fear thanks to her past. However she's quickly informed Leah has been searching specifically for her for years. What the heck makes her so special, and how does this woman know her full name? SURPRISE ...apparently she's not human, but more. They don't know exactly what type of supernatural she is, but her power has periodically called to Leah. She was tasked by the Supernatural Academy to find Mads and bring her back so she may safely learn her power. It's also so they can decipher exactly which supe she is.

Welcome to Supernatural Academy, where mean girls have powers, a group of insanely HOT guys rule the school and are rumored to be descendents of Atlantis?!! Yet despite this crazy she feels a sense of home for the first time. Unfortunately nobody can figure what type of supernatural she actually is. What's going on, and WHY is she drawn to the forbidden hot guys?

Atlantians, lost gods, hormones galore, mystery, adventure and one amazingly awesome, pink haired female take center stage. Madi makes her own family and feels a sense of belonging for the first time amidst the crazy and centuries old prophecies. Will she learn who or what she truly is? Can she and her friends discover the answers? Who is friend and who is foe? I was instantly hooked on this series!!! I'm already in withdrawal and wanting to read book two!!! Jaymin Eve definitely has a way with storytelling!

Could have been much better; disappointed - excessive profanity for no reason

I almost stopped reading within the first 20-30 pages because of all the senseless profanity/cussing. It's an author cop-out to use profanity rather than actually say anything. I started to get pulled into the story in spite of the language, but then the book let me down with weak plotting. There was a lot of telling rather than showing. Maddie studied, but I never learned anything. The best academy books allow the reader to go to school with the characters. I kept waiting for something to happen besides eating lunch, trying on extremely sexy clothes, and swimming naked. Character development is mostly non-existent. One day she's alone and angry, the next day she has BEST FRIENDS. I notice that books with sex tend to get high reviews no matter how poorly written. This book could have been good. I see other reviewers say that her other books were better. I'll have to think before trying something else by her. I would have loved to give a good review. I try always to write a review for any book that I love. This one I did NOT love.

Supernatural Academy is a spin off of the Supernatural Prison series. However this isn't like the other books where we follow characters we know. This is a brand new, sparkling, pink haired character that we're introduced to and her journey into the Supernatural world. This book was awesome. It was amazing. It is all the best bits that I love of this authors writing. The world building, the characters and the story line are perfectly created. I was hooked from the first page in and I laughed and swooned (yes there are some amazingly hot, steaming off my kindle, characters) my way through this book. It has a great new storyline to not make it feel like it's copying the original SP series, but familiarities are weaved throughout which means you don't need to of read the other series to enjoy this one. I'm looking forward to year two of the academy. This is a must read for me for any fan of academy books, supernatural characters and steaming hot guys. Some would say that if you're a fan of Harry Potter then you'll enjoy this. Yes, but think a more mature and advanced HP. Either way, I loved this book and it easily gets five shiny stars from me.

This is the first story in a new branch of stories from the Supernatural Prison Series, although the characters we are all familiar with aren’t involved this time. This author is on top form bringing readers a fantastic tale of adventure, sassy characters, swoon worthy heart throbs and loads of twists and action. Maddie is a girl with secrets and this story sees her on a road to self discovery. I’m so glad to have returned to this world it’s one of my all time favourites and this new series is shaping up to be just as awesome as Jessa and her pack 😁 looking forward to more 😁 5 stars

A rollercoaster of emotions and history throughout the story, New life, New friends, New magics and a safe place to stay in a story that is quite descriptive so really draws you in so you want to read to find out about Atlantis, but also raises more questions. Maddi' s heritage - who are her parents- what's the connection to Atlantis, what are her powers? How is she connected to the other atlanteans. Looking forward to the next book hopefully soon

It will have you holding onto that tissue box,as if you hid them away for a special treat,you will need many !more boxes before then both with laughter and tears.
I hope you enjoyed them as much as I have but I didn't read them in the usual order but after tonight,
there are few things that bring me pleasure in life but give me some books so that I may lose myself completely as a "fly on the wall" watching and immerse my mind on the pages,as I wish it was happening to me.
