Earth Ponds: The Country Pond Maker's Guide to Building, Maintenance, and Restoration (Third Edition) Kindle Edition
The bible of pond-making in a fully redesigned 30th-anniversary edition.
There is nothing like a pond. What else can simultaneously increase your aesthetic pleasure, offer recreational opportunities, help the environment, and increase the value of your property? Earth Ponds is the standard resource for building and maintaining these important and lovely landscape features. For thirty years now Earth Ponds, with some 100,000 copies in print, has guided an entire generation of pond makers on everything from site planning to soil sampling to drainage and wildlife management. It’s a complete overview of the country pond. Illustrations guide the pond builder through every step of the process; chapters carefully describe the issues and decisions in a wonderfully personal way. It’s the condensed wisdom of a man who has spent a lifetime building, restoring, and maintaining ponds.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2018Interesting book, perhaps a little light when it comes to actual pond making details. It is a worthwhile purchase to use as reference for future projects.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019This book didn't get into the construction like I thought it was going to. Half the book spent talking
about ponds he's seen or heard about. On building it was very vague....dig a hole in clay and see if
it holds water....duh
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2013This was a gift to my son who needs to build a pond and the previous edition was highly recommended.
It looks good but needs some colored pictures to get 5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2014Wasn't what I thought it was about.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2015Disappointing! For me at least as I was looking for more help with an imperfectly put in pond. Much better if you're putting in a new pond from scratch. It is a classic, after all.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2014Not what I was looking for
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2013Nice book with good information as a INTRODUCTION to pond building. But not enough detailed information on digging etc. Suggests checking it out at library. We need to buy additional books.

This book is not a guide to building a swimming pool pond the cover picture and title are misleading.
It is a romanticised story of a man who dug a hole on his land.
I also suspect from the terrible writing that he was drunk when he wrote it!

Very good book!
