You people are jerks

Harry Shearer is one of the funniest people alive. Why trash his new CD in a public forum? If you don't like his sense of humor, you don't like his sense of humor. But why waste your own time and make him miss out on sales because of your own sense of humor? That's just MEAN!

I love Harry Shearer. His new CD is as witty as everything else he does.

And sure, he's an a-hole. But wouldn't you be if you worked in his industry?

While I love Shearer on the Simpsons, in the Christopher Guest movies, and as a member of Spinal Tap & the Folksmen, this CD is just flat-out awful. I heard a clip of "Corn Wine" on the radio, loved it, and rushed out to by the CD. Now I feel like I've been snookered in the same way as when a lame "comedy" movie puts out a trailer that contains all of the funny parts -- except I've spent 2x the cost of a movie ticket. (Almost makes me wish I'd spent the money going to see "Daddy Day Camp" instead, except that movie didn't even have funny moments in the trailer!)

Corn Wine, which the liner notes reveal was written for "A Mighty Wind" but cut -- and compared to the twisted folk gems on that soundtrack, it was a good decision -- is the only track even slightly worth listening to. The others do not work on any level: they are not very clever or interesting as satire; they are not that enjoyable musically; and they are not funny. At all.

Weird Al Yankovic's career is not threatened in the least by this CD. Heck, Mark Russell is more listenable. Avoid.

Pointless and Cringe Inducing...

Pointless is right! Shearer performed one of the songs from this CD on Jimmy Kimmel last night. I sat waiting for the humorous part to start, but of course it never did. I thought at first he was parodying a homeless man performing in the style of a Sinatra-type Vegas lounge lizard, but turns out he was serious. Just absolutely embarrassing and cringe-inducing.

Wow.....terrible

Just not funny at all. Unbelievably bad. Can't really say much more than that. I love him on the Simpson's, but wow am I disappointed. The entire CD is just filled with poor references to the war, the hurricane, our space program, etc etc etc. If he's trying voice his opinions then he wasn't very effective, and if he's trying to create a political satire then it's even worse. Whatever the 'purpose' was for this CD, it'll serve much better for target practice...PULL!
