My husband and son are having a blast reading those original stories. Beautiful language, good storylines, and nice little pictures. The book is precious in our family and hopefully will be passed onto other generations.

Our toddler loves this book. He was given a Thomas trains collection and rather than plug him in to the TV, we got this book. His dad read him stories from it at bedtime for a few months every night until they read all of the stories. He knows all of the names of the trains and their numbers and what fuel they use. Some of the language is a bit strange and the way they treat each other in the stories isn’t quite up to modern kindness standards. Overall he loves it.

Wonderful books the kids have memorized. I wish I’d had the originals as a kid.

These are all the same stories that I enjoyed as a child. Formative, fun, creative and historical. I love reading these to my daughter. The version that I received had clearly been enjoyed for many years and the binding had blown out much like the one that I remember from my childhood (must have been a weakness in the way that the binding was done) so I took a roll of packing tape and fixed it up. Now it works like new, and is ready for many more years of enjoyment.

As far as content goes, my favorite stories are the few original books. Edward is my favorite engine, because he has a great attitude. The stories that I like less, still serve as an interesting look at the changes in industry and transportation throughout the 20th century, and bring about some interesting conversation.

All the original Thomas the Tank Engine stories, with their illustrations, in one hardbound volume. Reading these stories to your pre-schooler is the best quality time to be had. The price was very good and shipping was reliable.

The quality of the book is good, as in it's well manufactured and the illustrations are beautiful... However I suspect the illustrations were printed larger in the original books before being assembled into this all-in-one. It's good, the stories are just a little hard to read. The language is old and I think maybe the editing wasn't perfect even back then. The way the words flow can be challenging to read. For example -- when "accents" are used in the book the words are spelled phonetically to capture the accent -- but it's complex enough that I couldn't even make out what was supposed to be said. For this reason I want to rate it 3 out of 5. HOWEVER:
The stories aren't "dumbed down" like modern Thomas books. They are long and detailed and... for that I'm going to bump it up to a 4. I just want to warn that it's not really an "easy read" when you sit down with your kids. It's not "hard" either, just... the language is old so you have to really focus. And some of the stories are a little boring by modern standards.

I cannot tell you how many cherished memories I have of bedtimes with my son reading these stories. He loved, well still loves Thomas and his friends. We have moved several times since then, and across several states, I will always keep this book. He is much older and rarely talks about Thomas, but sometimes we still share memories of that time. So special. Please create bedtime routines with your children. It may seem like wasted energy, when you aren’t sure if you are connecting, but keep reading to them. My son is 24 now, and (with lots of help from family and professionals) quite verbal. He is also making progress towards independence. I like to think that he internalized some of Thomas’ better traits.

We have struggled through the little board books and other spin-off type stories thinking that this must be the age appropriate version for our children. But I finally figured out exactly what to purchase. I will say, my boys are 2 and 3 and they absolutely love this book as it is. I don't water it down or shorten the stories or just look at the pictures. We have been reading the stories in order and it is an absolute hit. My just-turned-2-year-old gets restless after story number three, but in general, we can read a couple of these stories at bedtime and they will ask for it again and again. I can't believe I didn't buy this sooner. I am miffed that I had to wade through so much commercializing of the original series before I found the gem that it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars The complete Thomas the Tank Engine volume
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 30, 2022
We all know Rev. Awdry’s famous Thomas the Tank Engine stories. This volume is the complete collection. I bought two copies for my children to read to my two grandsons. The book itself is not suitable for very young children since it is printed on ordinary paper, but it will make wonderful bedtime stories for parents to read, and as children grow up and learn how to respect and take care of books, it will provide them with much pleasure.

    Ovviamente testi in inglese
