If you want a Doc Severinsen album that is something he was very passionate about making, get this one. I also recommend it for the music (I love every song on it), and because the recording quality is excellent, which I am very picky about recording quality. (He does have an album available on Amazon that is a TelArc recording, and that is at least among the finest, if not the finest, recording you are going to get as far as CD music). From the first tune on the CD you will discover that Doc had wanted to make this type of recording for a long time. It is jazz-blues. So, you say you are not into the blues but you love Doc Severinsen? Buy this CD. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Every song is different, each precisely executed by the top notch musicians Doc used, and of course there is the virtuoso trumpet playing of Doc himself on every song. I highly recommend that if you want only a few Doc Severinsen albums in your collection that you make this one of them.

I have listend to this CD probably more often than I care to admit and I never grow tired of it. It's as if some of the most talented musicians in the industry got together for a band party and played their hearts out. It's good-time music at its finest!! (At one point, you can hear Doc shout "Ohhhh . . . Yeaaah . . .!! at the end of a smokin tune.)

As a pleasant bonus, the excellent vocal stylings of Barbra Morrison (not so well known), provides another reason to buy this CD. (I was quite impressed with Morrison's classy & pleasing vocal quality, style and range. (She's a genuine under-the-radar talent -- and renders a great performance with "Don't Touch Me.")

This is another quality release from Doc Severinsen. It's a great swinging blues ensemble that should not be missed if you are a blues or swing band fan.

Doc and The Tonight Show Band made several recordings in the late 1980's - so far I've found four. These are wonderfully arranged, played and recorded and document the astounding quality of this band we rarely heard on the Tonight Show Band. It's like Johnny Carson was keeping the best part of those shows for himself and his studio audiences. Doc credits Johnny for keeping the band together so long. Listening to these CD's, I think Johnny deserves a Grammy for this great contribution to jazz fans everywhere.
