Product Description
Product description
What do you get when you cross the games of foosball, tiddlywinks, and soccer with one of the world's most popular building toys? That'd be the Shoot 'n' Save kit from LEGO. Unlike most LEGO sets, the Shoot 'n' Save is more game than interlocking block kit. The 160 pieces assemble quickly to offer fun challenges for multiple or solitary play. Simple yet ingenious mechanisms allow players to shoot the three mini soccer balls toward the goalie on a stick, who sports two oversized yellow hands for blocking help. For added difficulty, wind the spring behind the goalie to make him move back and forth for extra territorial protection.

Shoot n' Save is pretty easy to build and the little motor is cute, but runs out of steam before a child --or adult-- can get many kicks shot off. The ball dispenser doesn't work that great as designed in this set. Part of the appeal came from the packaging as my son saw how this set 's motorized goalie could be added to his soccer field. The reality is the motorized goalie has no value in playing the field with another person as it just cycles back and forth--it's easy to get a kick past. An interactive goalie, "motorized" by another person's hand, responding to your partcular play, is the only way to go. And if you have a Soccer field, you have all you need for a good goalie; you don't need this set.
We got this set on an after-Christmas sale, and at the discounted price it is worth it for its parts to expand a regular LEGO soccer field: the ball server is more fun and functional to dispense balls onto the field, and the foam goalie hands are a good way to give a less experienced player a handicap against a better opponent. All the other parts are best dumped in with other loose LEGOs and used to expand the fun things imagination leads your child--or you--to build.
