Product Description

The hiatus is back off, again, for the Beastie Boys, and music lovers will bob their heads with insuppressible glee. With its Nice & Smooth impersonations and shout outs to Brooklyn's Albee Square Mall, To the 5 Boroughs, their first album in six years, harkens the return of the trio to the city that made them who they are today. It's an up-tempo yet surprisingly homogenous assemblage of vintage electro-style party beats, and it's a strictly Beastie affair: the Boys co-wrote and produced each track themselves, which means that it sports none of the sonic fripperies and quirky collaborations that distinguished previous classics such as Paul's Boutique. Finally jelling after two years of on-again, off-again recording, To the 5 Boroughs will appeal to those fans old enough to remember the Licensed to Ill tour. Those old-schoolers are sure to appreciate the album's mostly off-the-cuff lyrics and minimal-to-the-extreme musical landscape--even if its stripped-down sound may leave others longing for the days when the Boys were California dreamin'. --Rebecca Levine

Bought this album just after Christmas and it's still not here..... I've been told it's lost, it'll never show up and then given a delivery date of today....As of today no album . Dont no what to think. Great album regardless... Would like to have my album.

EDIT:::: Great seller. The album was lost in shipping and was replaced quickly... They were great and worked it out to insure I got what I ordered.. They kept in touch to insure it was delivered. I really can't say enough about how great they were..(I don't work for them btw) Now I think you should buy something for yourself..... From them...

Look back into the past of the Beastie Boys. Every album they released was one step ahead of the last one. Each one introduced new weirdness into their sound. TT5B shows the Beasties as what they are, mature and thoughtful, but, instead of blazing forward on the path (no funk instrumentals are to be found here, no weird turntablist tricks), they retreat back to the beginning and record a classic hip-hop album. This album absolutely glitters with Golden Age samples and sound. The overall theme is worshipping at the altar of almighty NYC; as such, this is an album that is not as universally translatable as some are. If you hate NYC with a passion or are fickle to it, this album's lyrics will not interest you in the slightest. Fortunately, you won't need the lyrics; the beats are tight and the bass is booming.

This is a classic-sounding album from the maturing Beastie Boys. It is a relatively straightforward hip-hop album, but it is fun and occasionally even thought-provoking.

I have waited a VERY long time for this CD to come out. It seems like a lot longer than 6 years...(I don't think we can count sounds of science)
Regardless. The thing about this CD is, it isn't all like Ch-Check it out. It has some very different beats that mixed up in my head decently after one sitting. (Usually I have to let the entire CD play about ten times before I catch the groove the B-Boys are throwing down).
This CD is sort of a mix of Hello Nasty, Paul's Boutique, and Root Down. Most of the songs are laid back, most are NOT in your face hard core stuff Like Check Your Head.
If you like the BBoys, you will like the CD, how can you not?
If you think the entire CD is like Ch-Check it out, you don't need to be listening to the Beasties anyway...they've got soooOOooo much more than just that.
I don't think too many of the other songs will get very much radio play...they are just too "dirty"...and I don't mean the lyrics. If you know the BBoys, you will know what I mean. The songs are full of front side talking and back end stuff that makes the BBoys the BBoys.
    Enjoy it.

I recently got turned on to one of the songs on this album (An Open Letter to NYC) and loved it. I checked out the rest of the album and it too was great. This collection of songs reminds me of when I was a teenager and listened to "License to Ill" for the first time. It has some samples and good beats, just like their breakout album. It also helps that I'm from Brooklyn and in the first part of "The Hard Way" Adam mentions the high school we both went to. In other words, listening to this album makes me feel younger. There, I said it!

I would highly recommend this album. The whole album flows together really nicely, it's one of those albums where you can listen to the whole thing enjoyably there isn't a bad song on it. There is a sense of humor in this album which I like, some of the raps make me laugh. Also the beat is sick! love it

This album is political without being drab. It is also quite entertaining. If you listen to the lyrics closely you will discover a lot of crazy/goofy jokes.

    「To the 5 Boroughs」
    Beasties
