DOA - Does not work at all

I have been a fan of SanDisk products for a long time. Have an SD-to-USB adapter whose printing has nearly worn off from all the use. A desktop multi-card adapter that has stood the test of time and will only be replaced by the USB 3.0 version of the same product. And over a dozen SanDisk memory cards and thumb drives.

So when it came time to buy another adapter, I limited my search to SanDisk to save time. Ultimately bought this. Took a while to get around to opening it, but when I did, what a disappointing surprise. It does not work. At all.

Tests on Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs produce identical results: Inserting the adapter (with card loaded) causes the computer to beep in recognition of a new device. The adapter's green light shines. But no AutoPlay window appears. Windows Explorer displays a new drive letter, but there is no drive associated with it. And the adapter doesn't appear in the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" list from the System Tray.

No drive = a completely unusable piece of equipment.

While I still believe in SanDisk gear as a group, I suggest steering clear of this particular product and choosing some other adapter.

Perfectly Met My Needs... and more

I originally got this so I could access data from my cell phone's mini SD card on my computer, which at the time didn't have a card reader. However I have used this awesome little device in many other situations. It has been an invaluable addition to the junk I carry around with my laptop. One reviewer said that this will not work as a flash usb drive, and I disagree. I wouldn't recommend that application for everyday use, but if you need a usb flash drive and you don't have one you can usually find or find someone with a compatible memory card and voila you have a temporary usb flash drive. On more than one occasion I have been asked by someone at work if I could loan them a USB flash drive for a few minutes, and this little reader was the solution. Now most laptops and desktops come with these readers built in, but there are still plenty of other devices that have USB but not a card reader or not the kind of card reader you need. I can't attest to the devices relative speed or any other specs relative to any other device. These things were never important to me while I was using it. It's small enough to carry with me everywhere my laptop goes, and every time I needed it, it did what I needed it to.

Very dissatisfied

I purchased this reader exclusively for my 1gb Kingmax MMC, which I use in my Nokia Ngage QD phone thinking I might eventually have a need for the other formats, and unfortunately, it does not read my MMC (MultiMediaCard) at all. I plugged it in my PC without the card and it seemed to recognize it just fine, but as soon as I insert the card it has problems (I made sure it was seated correctly and inserted the right direction). The light will come on momentarily (indicating that it is plugged in and inserted properly) but then a few seconds later it shuts off and Windows complains that I have unsafely removed the device. This continues until I actually remove it and/or reboot the computer. I know the card is just fine, as it works beautifully in my Ngage. The PC I tested the reader on was running Windows 2000 with SP4. I tried it on a PC running Windows XP SP2 as well and the darn thing wouldn't recognize it at all, even without a card in it (other flash drives/readers work just fine). The reader came with drivers, which are only meant to be used with Win9x machines. Of course I tried installing them anyway, to no avail. No drivers are necessary when using Win2k/XP, according to the instructions. Also, I feel it necessary to add that SanDisks website support for this product is non-existent.

Since the reader has to accomodate for so many formats, the slots are not well suited for one specific format; my MMC card went in very stubbornly and required quite a bit of force until it finally "clicked".. even then it didn't seem quite right. Unfortunately I cannot report on how well it reads other formats, but if you need an MMC reader, look elsewhere.

Needless to say I will be requesting a refund.

NOT SDHC compatible

I didn't know before I bought this card reader that is is not compatible with the cards that I have, one is a SDHC and the other is a micro SDHC. The light on the card reader comes on when I insert the cards, o that leads me to believe that it would work with regular cards, but unfortunately this doesn't work with the level of technology I own. That's why the card reader only gets a 2*, it may work, but not with new SDHC cards.

I looked up on SanDisk's website to see if I needed drivers and I found a forum thread which states that this card reader doesn't support SDHC. boo.

Doesn't WORK with ANY of my cards!

So this product I was so excited to recieve when I finally did I got on my computer and went to use it with my SDHC sd card made by SanDisk as well, nothing worked so I tried putting my phone card in to see if it was just the card...NOTHING! Then I tried to download a new program to open the material, but this reader just did NOT read ANY of my cards I had, all were different, different brands types etc...HORRIBLE PRODUCT I talked with a customer care person at SanDisk even trying to fix the problem NONE OF THE PERSONELL at SanDisk knew ANYTHING! Ridiculous, needless to say I am stuck with a product that doesn't work and will no longer purchase any sandisk.
