Product Description

The DVD side of the DualDisc will feature a 20+ minute film featuring the making of 'Stand Up' with in-depth interviews with DMB at their recording studio in Charlottesville, VA. RCA. 2005.

Amazon.com

Don't let the headless CGI dancer on the cover fool you. While Stand Up has a more organic feel than 2001's radio-ready Everyday, it is hardly an invocation for carefree days spent twirling on the grass. Instead it is a call to arms that carries over much of the insurrectionary spirit the Dave Matthews Band brought to 2004's Vote for Change Tour. Matthews, sounding rawer than ever, swerves between optimism ("To change the world you only start with one step," he sings on "You Might Die Trying") and angst ("See the man with the bomb in his hand/Everybody wake up," on "Everybody Wake Up [Our Finest Hour Arrives]"), while producer Mark Baston, best known for his small-time work with big-name pop acts like Beyonce and 50 Cent, responds by putting the marching band rhythms of Carter Beauford in the front and galvanizing the music with a crisp R&B edge, most evident in the totally--okay, partially--crunk "Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd." --Aidin Vaziri

DMB is a mule for RCAs DRM virus
several people have had major computer issues after inserting this disc into thier windows PC.It's sad that DMB has no problem being a mule for RCSs poorly coded DRM virus.beware.The US release of this album contains RCAs virus-like MediaMax CD3 Copy-Prevention System which has been known to crash computers and prevent your hardware from working properly. Insert the Stand Up disc into Windows based computers at your own risk. If your computer has become infected, information on how to fix it as well as information about the DRM can be found.[...]

At first I thought the album to be mediocre. But I have to say after seeing both shows in Columbus I am most definitely putting this album up a couple of notches.

When you hear them live, the new songs come to life. The best were Down on the Bayou, Hello Again, and Hunger for the Great Light.

I don't like to rank the albums in exact order but I can say Stand Up is not as good as Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, and Before these Crowded Streets.. But better than Everyday and Busted Stuff...

If you are a true DMB fan who loves to see them live.. I'm sure you will agree that this album is much, much better after experiencing the new DMB songs first hand!!

P.S. - Why wasnt Joyride on this album? Hopefully he plays it again at some point.

Yes, in some ways this is a different type of music than fans are used to but different is still good. There are so many very beautiful songs on Stand Up that make you feel and make you, God forbid, think. It still captures the common themes about love, regret, hope - who we are to ourselves, each other and the world, that is always in DMB's music. Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd is poetry, that carries the listener right to the feelings of the writer. Steady As We Go is a sensitive love song that is a gem. I think this music is about feelings and thoughts from a group of men that are more mature and have a different perspective-a perspective that comes from living. Of course the music will change. People change.

Not far from participating in the Vote for Change Tour during the 2004 presidential champain, 2005's Stand Up is filled with a lot of political statements when you listen to the lyrical content in two of the album's best songs with "Everybody Wake Up," and "You Might Die Trying," and they still show the deep thought the band has always had. "American Baby," is another exceptional piece and filters feelings on political and emotional levels. Musically, the production is tight, and while the songs don't carry the instrumental pauses or extended jams as often, they also don't lack the energy. Tinsley's violin may sound a little more discreet, but not lacking as he takes control in the final moments of "You Might Die Trying," and plays a fabulous finishing take on "Louisiana Bayou,"(and Tinsley plus the band jam long and hard when they perform these tracks live). The band experiment with some musical edges with soft R&B on "Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd," and the Southern Country feel on "Louisiana Bayou," but there are a few flaws here and there. "Smooth Rider," would be the dud on this release and not one I would consider as the band's shining moment. "Hello Again" doesn't work well either. But overall, the Dave Matthews Band haven't lost their musical cool and conclude with two more great tracks in "Steady As We Go," and "Hunger For the Great Light," containing the spiritual honesty and raw emotion the band is so well-known for.

This album gets negative reviews from slight dings to absolute slammed but I think it deserves a chance as it really shows their first attempt at finding maturity in their music. They got a little political with American Girl, they tried some electric guitar and synth along the way but the energy is there that I love DMB for each time out.

There are only a handful of albums that I can listen all the way through... this is one of them!

This is another attempt by Sony/BMG/RCA records to eliminate the illegal copying of music. I bought the Dual Disc version by accident... I opened it and plugged it into my stereo. Nada note.

Close inspection of the Case does say that the CD side doesn't conform to the CD Redbook spec and may not work in all players.

The CD side doesn't work in a Sony Walkman, 3 PCs, MAC, Sony CD Players, car players, and expensive high end audio CD players. The DVD side does work but I can't play DVDs in my car.

The Amazon description doesn't mention that the CD part will not work.

The DVD side in album mode is "enhanced" audio. This means that there is extra data for the other channels in a surround sound system. This doesn't necessarily mean that it conforms to the DVD Audio spec but there is no way to tell.

The DVD Video included is a behind the scenes look at the recording process for the album and is interesting to see once. Also included are some still pictures (for some reason, most are in black and white) of the same data from the Video. It is just like they took a few frames and made them into B&W stills so you would think they are different.

Basically, this disc is not worth the $1 extra over the copy protected DRM version. Yes, the standard CD is copy protected and still brain dead but there may be ways around the copy protection posted on the web if you look for it.

Musically, I have always liked the variety of the DMB. I don't think all songs on this album are up to snuff but some grow on you.

Unfortunately, the inability to play this CD in most of my listening venues will slow down or eliminate the time needed to have the songs grow on me.

Don't buy the DUAL DISC. Tell AMAZON to put a notice up

5.0 out of 5 stars Was sagt man dazu ?
