Personally I put in a 2006 which I then upgraded to Lion with no problem. I have read that there is no problem with the 2008 Pro's either, but I have no direct experience. The 5770 brings the machine's responsiveness with complex websites and graphics up to modern specs. So I would say" "Go ahead and get it."

It appears that it may. Please review the postings at this Apple link. http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MC742ZM/A/will-early-2008-mac-pro-owners-be-able-to-use-the-ati-radeon-hd-5770/QDDDH2T2JF44XHHAD

Yes, I am running this card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) in a Mac Pro Early 2008 with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor, after earlier card became erratic in terms of displaying anything on monitors.

Yes. I have it installed and working in mine for about 2 years now. This doesn't have the dual dvi ports like the stock version the Early 2008 Mac Pro's came with. So you are limited to one screen unless you have a splitter.

Be careful with your power limits. I have 4 internal HDs, 2 Opticals, and am drawing power for external USB, and FW devices. I was having problems early on when switching to this card, and I backed off by pulling some unused cards.

Basically, I share a HDCP capable display with my Mac and my PS3. When switching back and forth between display inputs, sometimes the display turns into static and it appears that the HDCP encryption is not properly turned off [i.e. watching Blu-ray movie on PS3 = HDCP on, Mac not doing anything].
98% of the time, the card works fine for me, but I have not run any Apple DRM protected content on my machine [I have not purchased HD content from iTunes].
