A.Kaitlyn says:
Amazon just censored the following text from my profile because of "profanity."

"Amelia R-F lives in San Francisco with her Monty Python Killer Rabbit Slippers, calculator watch, rainbow striped sneakers, and Snowth stuffed animal. She is a Student Ambassador for The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (www.glsen.org) and founder of The Make It Safe Project (www.makeitsafeproject.org) which donates books about sexuality and gender expression to schools and youth homeless shelters nationwide. She is also a member of the Panhandlers Steel Drum Band and numerous LGBT organizations, including the NCLR, HRC, GLAAD, and GSA Network. She is currently contemplating how awkward it is to write about herself in the third person."

Since when are any words in there inappropriate? I am one of the nations most currently prevalent teen LGBT rights activists and you are censoring that? I have donated hundreds of books to thousands of kids (many of them homeless), and you're censoring that? There are no words in the text above that I find profane, and I would love to know what you think is so offensive about it that you just couldn't let it through.

Sincerely,
Confused

I would also like to add that I send all the books for my organization through Amazon, so this really bothers me.

I'd contact the admin respectfully and ask them what the problem is. You might just have tripped some kind of auto filter.

A.Kaitlyn says:
I hope that's what happened. I just sent them an e-mail so hopefully it will get fixed. Auto-filter software is spotty, like they are supposed to censor the word "sex" and wind up getting rid of "sexuality." I'd put money on that word being the hold-up.

Try it without the word that comes after Python. I would type the K word here, but I don't want to get deleted.

And good for you for your activism!

I doubt if it's "killer." I'm wondering if it's the links? They could be the issue. By the way, welcome! It's always good to have another Python fan around the ABNA.

It's easy to test both possible filter-busters.

The auto-filter probably picked up the word "gay." That's what caused one of my previous pitch reviews to be deleted (because there was a gay character I had questions about). I agree, contact Auntie Ammy.

You should be angry. But it's probably just a mechanical thing. There is an appeal process--I just don't happen to know how it works. I believe Mary or Jeff was telling me about it. One of them will probably be along soon to explain it to all of us. And of course you can always contact the ABNA Administrator directly.

Don't assume evil intent without checking first. You can always light the torches and grab the pitchforks later.

A.Kaitlyn says:
@David, I didn't.

They said it's because of the URLs.

And Rodney, that's exactly what I was afraid of.

So then, sounds like we're all okay here.

I wonder if it's the links too. I put in the link to my novel on Amazon in my profile and I got the same message. I took it out and all was fine. Try the organization names with out links.

The more I think about this, the more I believe that we must band together as the writers here have so often done in the face of injustice. So I'm bumping this until Jeff or Mary can show up and straighten it out.

A.Kaitlyn says:
I'm glad that they just meant to the block the URLs, but I think that they shouldn't call URLs "profanity."

Posted on Dec 23, 2011, 5:52:02 AM PST
What are we banding together to do again?

Oh, boy, we're going to have a band? Can I play the cymbals? ***crash!***

I agree, A.K. It's nuts. But that's why I didn't pop on here to provide the info that John suggested that Jeff or I provide -- it seemed like you'd resolved it. I don't have any inside information anyway -- I just pretend i do.

S. J. Dunn says:
they don't want people to go to other sites and that's why they don't want urls? But if that's the case, then why just your urls?

Doesn't make any sense to me.
