I just thought I'd start a thread where we can collect issues with Windows 8 and problems streaming Amazon Instant Video. Recently, I've been experiencing the following:

- In the modern browser, the player hangs with a progress bar when trying to "Update the player". I see this with episodes of The West Wing HD. In desktop mode, the player successfully updates itself and starts the video.

- I connect my Win 8 tablet (Acer Iconia W510) to my projector using HDMI. Often, after a video has started streaming, the HDMI out suddenly dies, and the video starts stuttering or playing slowly. The only way to restore HDMI output is to restart the computer. This happens in both desktop and modern browsers, and is happening quite frequently. I have to just keep restarting and trying, with no discernible symptom, until I can get a stream to play without interruption.

Amazon instant video sucks because it can't be downloaded to play on a PC. Why is this? You can play on all kinds of other devices but, you have to BUY them. What a ripoff Amzon instant streaming is!

Have you tried Amazon Unbox? It's free; it's downloaded to my PC and I watch all my free Prime movies there, as well as the ones I purchase.

Got a new laptop with Windows 8 about two weeks ago and haven't been able to watch any of my VOD because it keeps giving me the "update your player" error. My Flash is up to date. What gives? Do I need to install Silverlight also?
My system specs are:
AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.90 GH
Installed memory: 4.00GB (3.47 usable)
64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.
Did I buy a crappy laptop and now VOD won't work? Is it a setting in Windows 8 I don't know about?
UPDATE: Apparently, if I reboot my laptop after every video, it runs fine. Does this mean there is a setting (for a cookie or clearing cache) that has to be on? Just throwing out ideas.
Still need help.

I use Amazon Unbox on my PC to watch movies I download. How do you use Unbox to watch free Prime Instant Videos that are only offered as streaming video? I have Windows 8 and have not been able to get any free prime video to stream on my computer.

Wonderful new problem. After streaming video for months on my windows 8.1 laptop all of a sudden I can no longer watch prime video. When I click on the watch video now nothing happens. Clicking on buying videos works just fine (surprise). I have a ticket open with Amazon but I am not too hopeful that they will find a solution. Anybody else have this problem or is it time for Netflix?

Did you ever find a solution? My laptop is doing the same thing now--suddenly---with Amazon Prime Instant Video. Amazon says it is a problem with Silver Light.

As of Feb 19, 2015 Amazon has discontinued Amazon Unbox!

Yes, this is terrible. I got a notice to update. Tried to open unbox, which wanted an immediate update, but I wanted to wait (with a deadline of March 20th ish), so I didn't update right then, and now unbox won't open at all.
