This forum is filled with hate mongers.... who hate the Bible, God, Jesus Christ, and anyone who claims to love Jesus Christ...and worships him. However, this is also a fulfillment of prophecy...which proclaims: "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you" (John 15:18) and continues to explain (John 15:19-27).

Pathfinder,

As an agnostic I don't hate God. In the first place, I don't know if he exists, so how can I hate him? In the second place, if he does exist, I'd have to know what he's like before I could make a decision - and since believers don't agree on what he's like I suspend judgment. In the third place, I don't hate all Christians - when some Christians tell me I'll go to heaven because I'm a good person even though I don't share their belief I tell them I'm skeptical but I respect their belief and I'll keep an open mind. But when some Christians tell me I and millions of other people will roast in hell for eternity and it's our own fault, yes I get angry - how do you expect me to respond to such cruelty and hatefulness?

It is equally filled with "Christians" who are filled with hate...who hate atheists, homosexuals, pro-lifers, evolutionists, and anyone who claims that God is bunk. However, this is also a lack of fulfillment of the greatest commandments: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your mind, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:20).

I'm just curious. You've been somewhere, minding your own business, and this actually happened?

I've been told that plenty of times.

I'd like to suggest that you go to the "Catholicism Versus Christianity" thread in this Christianity forum and read some of the posts of M. Russell (Mary Russell). Then come back and maybe restate your case about haters. I'm not expecting you'll change your mind, but you might get an added perspective on who's hating who.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 3, 2012, 4:23:58 PM PDT
Sadly, you're right. It's not just people who hate Christians, though, it's also filled with plenty of people who hate other religions and people who hate atheists. And it's not just this forum. You'll find the same kind of name calling and mud slinging on the Politics forum, for instance.

Unfortunately, many people don't come here to learn but to try to prove that they're smarter, better, or just more aggressive than anyone else. If you want to keep posting at all, you'll just have to get over that fact and to search out the few individuals who make a contribution and from whom you may learn something.

Well, I've come to realize that we have no control or responsibility for how others choose to feel about us - that's their business, not ours. All we can do is be responsible for ourselves and our own thoughts. Are WE loving? Are WE kind? That's what should really concern us, I think.

I've never really seen anyone claiming to hate God or Christians. Can't say I've seen many religious posters claiming to hate atheists for that matter. I do see a lot of arguing on both sides and sometimes even civil debate. I'm agnostic and I have both religious folks and atheists as friends. I think a lot of posters tend to get too caught up in debating religious issues. We see here why these discussions are discouraged in the workplace.

These are ages old debates where one side is always trying to change the other or questions that cannot be answered are still being asked to no avail. I rarely get too deep in these religious debates, especially when its one religion vs the other or religion vs atheist.

I think the worst thing I was ever called was a deciever, and that wasn't even a religious discussion lol.

I just see us as mostly mature, level headed people, with strong opinions based on true life experiences, and not quite sure how to write them out in sentences with elegance and grace.
We've all probably told someone off, who we regret doing that too, or apologized to another and found we had more common ground than we thought.
Hate is exaggerated. We shouldn't readily believe that about the other, unless it's what we are full of!

If so, please let me know if you're interested in learning what the word 'atheist' means.

I am an atheist. I do not hate that in which I do not believe. Because I have no reason to believe in supernatural beasties, books purporting to be the thoughts of such beasties are silly, but can be dangerous when some of the nastier stuff is believed and followed.

I do not hate most theists. It is the ones who want to force their religion on everyone else, and are willing to kill and torture (islamists) and those who want to jettison the US Constitution (mostly christians, some muslims, some jews).

I cannot help but dislike those who use their religion to oppress and discriminate against anybody at all.

But the Bible was written by humans and humans are fallible. How does that prove anything?

Javaman says:
Having been a Chritian now since 1972, I can say that when the Bible is preached people do become angry. But as a Christian this is no surprize look what happened to Jesus himself. There's so many opinions on what true Christainity is all about that indeed it's safe to say there's a lot of confusion out there. The whole concept of Sola Scriptura to me is paramount, because it's obvious that if we listen to what others have to say or even attempt to join a long standing established church that there is fallacy everywhere we go. In fact the bible says "we are all sinners" and "not a single person has ever lived up to the law (except Jesus)" So in a sense we as Christians really have no rights other than the fact we have a lawyer who advocates for us. When the trial comes, our laywer will present our case before the judge, and as known law breakers he will argue on our behalf. Our lawyer will win the case and we will inherit what he has for us. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of one that doesn't have the same lawyer as me.

Logic tells us the brillance of this plan, it's free! What in our life is free? That alone is priceless because there is nothing to purchase so that everyone can hire the cheif legalist who will allow justice to prevail on our behalf. We won't have to pay for the service! This plan is also a model of how Christians should behave. "Freely you have received, so freely give". Yet there are warnings, grave ones at that, that should we choose to misbehave there will be correction and it could be severe. We see this in what happened to the Jewish people throughout history. Christians are no different and they will receive correction just as the Jews have for centuries. What about those that reject Christ? Well when Jesus himself said "No one can come to the father except through me" he was saying that whatever is to be his benevolence at some time in the future, those who don't believe won't inherit it. We as Chrisitans know about the inheritence but only darkly because it isn't fully revealed. We also know that not all people can handle the truths in the Bible ourseleves included.

It's really bad logic to look into the past and make definitive all ecoompassing statements like "Because of this; therefore this mean that" As an example: "How was it possible that the Catholic Church started so many crusades that killed people?" Is it a conclusion then that the Catholic church as all the answers and all the truth? While we don't really know we can smell rats they are around and we are precisely instructed on what to do when things are not right.

Convincing agnostics and athesits is probably an exercise of futility as is arguing with Islamists, Budists etc. The real teacher isn't us anyway, so argument is often of little value. Rather, the softening of a person's heart is of value and usually precedes some traumatic event. At our beackoning, of course we should be in tune with the leadings given to help a softened stance, but most likely should steer clear of hardened hearts. After all this was the example shown in the Old Testament to the obstinate believers of Israel (both North and South). In essence they lead themselves to Babylon which is what will happen to any of us participating in the same type of events.

>>Having been a Chritian now since 1972, I can say that when the Bible is preached people do become angry.<<

Being told you are going to hell can have that effect on some people.

>>There's so many opinions on what true Christainity is all about that indeed it's safe to say there's a lot of confusion out there.<<

The confusion stems from fact that the New Testament is confusing and contradictory.

>>Logic tells us the brillance of this plan, it's free! What in our life is free?<<

Logic tells us that deals which appear too good to be true generally are.

>> That alone is priceless because there is nothing to purchase so that everyone can hire the cheif legalist who will allow justice to prevail on our behalf. We won't have to pay for the service!><<

Wow! That's even better than the deals Bernie Maddoff was offering!

>>We also know that not all people can handle the truths in the Bible ourseleves included.<<

Then what good are they?

>>Convincing agnostics and athesits is probably an exercise of futility...<<

Yep. You will have as much luck convincing grown folk to believe in Santa Clause, and for similar reasons.

I think that Pathfinder is a troll, not a True™ Christian. He makes other Christians look bad. The reasoned responses will never be read by him.

I have never quite understood the appeal of trollism.
