Andy F,

Let me explain. Dawkins says "shows appearance of design", to mean that it "appears" in the same way as the phrase "appearances can be deceiving".

Richard Dawkins himself is tired of how people like you take his quotes out of context.

BM:'It almost makes you afraid to ask for prayer (:'

<chuckle> Indeed. I seem to have no such 'instinct'. About 28 years ago, I was in a situation where the possibility of death or serious injury was quite serious and real. I never even thought on any level to go 'oh, Zeus, please save me !'. <g>

On-line tracking that provided the assigned priority class and status of the request would be a BIG improvement to the prayer process. If UPS can do it, I see no reason that a god can't do it.

Cheri,

Double blind tests have not shown a benefit. And these are the only ones that can truly take the placebo effect out of the study.

I really don't understand why God hasn't built an official web site, it could sure clear up a lot of things. It would be a good portal for his Prayer Tracking System too.

J. Harding says:
The rationalizations people use for why prayer doesn't do anything are kind of sad. People will say that god answered no if they don't get what they want or that asking for things is testing god. All of these rationalizations sound like huckster tricks that people are playing on themselves.

JagdTiger writes: I would think that any of these authors on alternative or independent archaeology (ancient aliens Tv show on history channel) were here posting you atheist and evolutionists would have a extremely hard time making any debates or rebuttals at all.

Nick: You're right, it is very difficult to attempt to reason with the irrational. As such, it does make debates very difficult. Rebuttals of ancient alien type programs - that is much easier. All one has to do is stick to the actual evidence.

I was talking about prayer by a Christian who has a personal relationship with God. If the patient is a believer, there are more instances of them getting well much quicker and with less complications than those who aren't depending on God.

I will say just because I'm a believer God,doesn't promise I will have perfect health or quick recoveries from surgeries. Ive had four back surgeries, all which failed but not because God didn't want me to be healed. The screws came loose in the first surgery which required the additional surgeries and my back has never healed.

These things happen in our natural world. Bodies can get worn out but I will say God HAS promised to be with us every step of the way. He hasn't left me one time.

It could be for some, but I know that my God hears my prayers and the prayers of those who pray for me. Just because the answer isn't always yes or immediate doesn't mean He isn't hearing me.

You have a sad outlook on life.

Tinker says:
I've had prayed some requests for many years. Maybe what I'm praying for isn't for my best, which has happened, and God has something better for me. I wait on Him, but the times I've plunged ahead with my will and not His, I find out the reason He didn't say yes. Possibly the answer depends on another person choosing to do the right thing and they are disobeying God.

As to waiting, in the Bible we see where the angel that was bringing an answer was delayed because of spiritual warfare. It took two or three weeks for the answer to be given.

I dot expect you to understand this and I also understand why you are seeing it like you do.

In the past few months, God has answered prayers even before I prayed them. They are answered in a way only God could have brought them to me. People have been amazed that these things have come into life and see that something has happened they have never witnessed in anyone's life before.

I can't out give my God.

That makes me wonder if prayer may have some control over the autonomic nervous system - making "God" an unnecessary component.

Why would you ask for prayer of you don't believe in God? Seems a little strange to me. Just wondering.

Have you ever had a child or wife who was desperately ill? Who did you call out to when the doctors had done all they could?

Well, Tiger, if a person believed in Genesis s/he would have to be a vegetarian, because that's all "god" gave to "Adam and Eve" to eat. Even the animals were only allowed to eat fruits and veggies.

Thanks for the sites. I will say God has answered my prayers too many times to count. What helps me more is Him giving me the strength to get through some of the really difficult times in my life. He is closer than a brother.

So, Cheri, are you saying that Muslims and Jews who pray wouldn't get well quicker because they're not Christians with a "personal relationship with God"?

Actually He has given us a faster connection, plus an instruction book~~

Tinker says:
I usually don't answer your posts, but I believe they are not praying to the god who created them. God isn't obligated to answer the prayers of those who have rejected His Son. He can and does at times answer their prayers, but the only prayer He will answer every time is the prayer for forgiveness of sin.

Astrocat says:
Cheri it's very sad to read posts that are so evident of exclusivism, of the rejection of the value of the lives of those who do not share your narrow orthodoxy. I know you are not unusual, but I'm hoping that more and more people will see that it's an error to exclude others and am working to bring that change of heart and mind to fruition.

Thanks, though, for answering my question.

I cmoletelynunderstand that you can't comprehend how God has set up His way of people coming to Him and having their sins forgiven. All the way through the bible, those who, worshipped other gods were punished so,future generations wouldn't follow suit.

What is sad to me is that God has so much to give to each of us. He loves and and wants us to love Him. He won't force us, and people can choose to go another way.

What blessings we are given when we surrender our will to His. Have a blessed day.

Re Cheri, 7-6 9:57 AM: "I know that my God hears my prayers..." You do not have (and CANNOT have [1]) any evidence to support this claim. You might consider that if there were actually a god that "loved you", your back would be healed by now.

1. Proof of this has been posted elsewhere.

Tinker says:
God put nature in place for a reason. Rarely does He intervene in cases such as someone breaking their neck, and becoming a quadraplegic. This happened to my friends daughter but she would tell you she wouldn't change a thing.

I will be healed, if not in this world then in heaven. It keeps me close to Him.

Astrocat says:
Cheri, I am not an atheist, but I am also not a sheep. I have chosen to recognize the Divine Life (God, if you will), as an integral part of everything that exists, including all human beings. I choose to listen to the teachings of Buddha and Christ that tell me that the Kingdom of God is within me, that is, that I am God residing in this form I call Nancy. I choose to be a "lamp unto my own feet" and not to blindly believe, or to accept anything without proof, through my own experience.

I realize that each of us has to go her own way and that all paths lead to the One Life, in fact, all paths are part of that Life. Coming from a broad inclusivism it's difficult for me to understand the appeal of an exclusivist outlook, but there you are, we're all having experiences to nourish the source of which we are such indispensable parts.
