Just a note of interest, especially for Van Beinum fans. Take a look on You Tube for a video performance, in its entirety, of the conductor leading the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Beethoven's Third ("Eroica") Symphony. There are precious few instances in which one would have the opportunity to see this very fine conductor of a great bygone era performing live in the Concertgebouw. Both the video and sound quality are quite good.

Jeffrey: Thanks for pointing this out. My teenage years were spent in the Concertgebouw as much as possible, and Van Beinum was the the Orchestras chief conductor at the time. Such a video brings back great memories.

I have this recording (it was hard to find!) and it is IMO one of the very great Eroicas.

The record I'm still searching for is Van Beinum conducting Haydn 88.

Terrific performance. His brisk tempos kept things moving.
