Two of the giants are gone. Now what's the state of the art??

- Nominate one or two, twice a day, at least 9 hours apart.
- Once seconded a nominee makes the voting list (must be different people).
- NB: Only two works can be listed per turn -- 2 noms, 2 seconds, or one of each.
- YEAR is year of completion, per Wiki, IMSLP or better; MUST BE INCLUDED or nom don't count
- Maximum of 30 on the voting list, at which time nominations are closed.

The all-X chromosome nominating post.

Think I'll play this time. Probably the last good decade for Adams, who has been cruelly shorted in recent decades. Doesn't time fly? Nominate:

Adams: On the Transmigration of Souls (2002)
Adams: The Dharma at Big Sur (2003)

Both wonderful pieces.

Are we adding 2010-2012 on here?

He made it into the top 10 last time. That's hardly much of a slight.

KenOC says:
How about "to present"? Then I can nominate Chapela's Magnetar, a happily meretricious work.

Sounds good to me.

Nominate:
Widmann: Oktett (2004)
Second:
Saariaho

Actually I was thinking about not participating in this one as I don't know many works but now that there is a real danger that Adams could make it again into top 10...:)

Careful sz. I don't have to know many works. Just what you are voting for.

Adams has some good works in this decade, including El Nino and Dharma.

Make it to "at present" -- 2010 to '12 a go!

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 29, 2012, 7:28:38 PM PDT
KenOC says:
Peter, I think Dharma is much better than Adams' acoustic violin concerto, which placed last decade. El Nino does less for me...

Transmigration certainly has some strikes against it, having won two Grammys and the Pulitzer, but it's a striking solution to an insoluble problem and very compelling IMO.

I admit that my knowledge of anything this recent is very spotty, but I assume that's true of most of us.
