I just clicked to upgrade via the $39 upgrade, and while my free year doesn't expire until Feb 2012, my Prime status now says 'cancelled'. What up? I neither have the $39 upgrade nor my free membership.

Yes! I agree that a second year of Prime would be much appreciated by us students! We're students for at least 4 years so it would be a great assistance. Even the half-price offer on a second year would be great! Thank you Amazon for being so customer friendly!

You don't think it's worth the $39 price tag? If you order 10 books in one year, the regular $3.99 shipping would be well over that. $3.25 a month is not much at all. I'm sure you could dig that much out of your couch each month.

I would not turn down a free extra year, but since that's not how businesses run, I'm not going to beg for it.

Amazon Prime is a great service, well worth the $39/year. I buy pretty much everything through Amazon. They've got the best prices on most of the things I buy.

If you check prime prices they are often higher than the non-prime meaning that they just increase the price, making shipping "included". Kind of like Zappos. I always check the prime and non-prime prices with outside retailers to make sure I get the best deal overall. However, since joining the free amazon prime for students program I have increased my shopping on Amazon more than 10x what it was before. So, overall i think keeping it free for students would be a big money maker for Amazon. If I pay $40 then I also have to factor that into future purchases plus weigh the higher "prime" prices. It gets too complicated.

This is probably one of the more reliable places to get books (particularly the very random ones I seem to get assigned), and I know I've appreciated the 2-day shipping. Count me in for wanting another year of Student membership.

I just had to pay 39.99 to renew my "Student" Prime membership, same price as non-students. Why doesn't Amazon at least give us a discount, if not free shipping throughout college? Interesting insight above by kia j benson regarding higher prices for Prime products vs. non-Prime. I'm going to start comparing in the future.

I would love if amazon would extend my student membership a second year!

I actually will stop using amazon if I don't get free shipping because I can get it somewhere else.

I would love to continue with the free prime as a student as well, I buy as many textbooks on here as I can, this semester saved a TON and since I have to drive 40 miles one way to the school bookstore it saved me even more! I use it for more than school, with 5 kids I use it for shopping alot as well! They can't go wrong with offering it for the students, maybe even while they are in college the whole time (can be verified using their .edu emails, since they are shut down when one graduates!)! Thanks for the first year free, now lets see it for a second! :)

The reason why I love using Amazon Prime is because they're way more efficient than my school's bookstore; some of their books don't come in until a week or two after I need them, thus the free two day shipping makes life a ton easier. I know it's only a matter of $40 to renew the Prime membership, and I know that in the grand scheme of things, it's not too much. However, right now there are other things that I need to consider buying thus the free two day shipping is the ideal situation for me. Though in the end, if I find myself really desperate for the two day shipping, I guess I'll have to shell out the money for that. Bottom line is, some college students don't want to play the extra money so they can get items; not all of us are made of money.

Thanks for the first year. (We students are like the mouse that got a cookie. When can I expect that glass of milk?)

I would jump at half price (plus the free movies)! Just do the math...it may or may not be a good deal for you. How many times are your orders under the $25 free shipping amount?

Now that I get free 2 day shipping, I order EVERYTHING from Amazon.
