My Garmin 1350 freezes up. After a couple of hours, it starts working again. The last time, I was able to turn it off by holding the on/off button down for about 10 seconds. I turned it back on and it was okay. Is there a software fix for this, or is it a problem with the unit itself?

I don't have an answer, but it sounds like what my Nuvi 1200 has done on two occasions. I'll try holding down the power switch next time.

Shortly after my problem appeared, I mentioned it to my brother-in-law. He asked when I had done an update? Like never. Well, I updated the maps shortly after I bought it, but that was it. He told me to update the software before going any further. I was already looking for the box to ship it back to Garmin for repair. I connected my Nuvi 1350 to my computer, signed onto my Garmin account and did an update. It took only a few minutes. My 1350 has never locked up again. Problem solved. There was no charge for the update.

Yes, I have read elsewhere that these lockups are caused by an issue that is resolved by updating the software.

Yes, that is correct. At least it resolved the "freezing up" problem with my Nuvi 1350. Go to the Garmin website, hook up the GPS to the computer and do a general update. It will take several minutes.

Thoughts says:
I haven't tried an update, but it became obvious my charger was irratic, and the freezes matched to it turning off, then on. Borrowed an adapter and that's fixed it. The freezing though seems to often be something else.
