I have been wishing for so many things and none of my wishes came true....lol however I never knew what the real purpose of the wish list was so if anyone can help me out here I would appreciate that.

One use is if there are items that you want, but cant get/are waiting for the price to go down, you can add them to your wishlist so that you can keep an eye on them without having to search everytime.
Another use is if you have a birthday or other gift-giving occasion coming up, you can create a wish list and send it to those that will be getting you gifts. They can either buy the things for you directly from Amazon, or just be able to get ideas of what you would like.
Another use is you can look at books, put them in a wish list, and when you finish the book you are reading, buy another from your list. This also works well because you cannot borrow books from the kindle owners lending library online, but you can look through the books and wishlist them, then download them when you have your kindle handy.

Basically, there are tons of uses for them. These are just a few things that I use them for. I am sure that there are other people that use them for far more clever things than me.

Seriously, if I want a book after I read the sample and it says " add to wish list" , does that mean it's not available for purchase.? Also where is this wish list ? I must have 10 books on it already?

when you order something, does it disappear from the list so someone else doesn't buy the same thing?

yes, if you order the quantity you specified. if you listed, say, 5 of an item but only bought 3 it will say has 3 out of 5. if you buy all 5 it no longer shows as unpurchased and drops to purchased view which only you can see if it's your account and your list.

if you buy a gift for someone it drops off their list that shows and if they go to buy it they get a someone may have bought this already message. even if the somebody is themself. then they can back out or buy another one anyway if they want more of whatever it was.

hope that made sense.

edit of my last reply. if you buy something from your wishlist but try to buy it again it will warn you that somebody may have purchased this item. you will also get that message if the person who bought it was somebody else and you try to buy it for yourself. you have the option to buy another of it anyway or just don't go through the checkout because you know someone got it for you already.

i hope that helps better. i left that part on in my previous post.

Thank you. I have been using it to track items myself, but was unaware that other people could see it to buy gifts from. I'll make sure to suggest my nieces create one so that it will be easier at Christmas. Thanks so much.
