Last two concerts were Blackstar back in May and Deltron 3030 this past weekend (played about 5 tracks off the new album being released this fall, it's going to be REALLY good). Trying to decide if I want to go see DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock this weekend and Typical Cats next Tuesday. Next month is Mos Def for me, was going to go see The LikNuts, but the show was cancelled. We have that A$AP tour coming through and I might go to that. Homeboy Sandman is also coming in a few weeks and I want to go to that, but he is opening for Brother Ali and I don't really care to see him so not sure if the cost will be worth it. Toward the end of October, going to see Chali2na and Cut Chemist together.

Denver + Fall/Winter + Hip Hop = Empty wallet for me.

^^ Yeah Denver and Salt Lake City is starting to get a lot of hip hop love as of lately. Brother Ali is coming out this way, and Common came earlier. I might get the chance to see Brother Ali, but we'll see. LikNuts has happened out here as well.

This summer I saw Talib, Tech N9ne, Atmosphere, and GZA is coming 10/21, I believe. Definitely the best year for shows that I can remember in the Buffalo area.

*Childish Gambino/Danny Brown came, too, but tickets were sold out before I could get one

Saw Slaughterhouse a few weeks ago, Crooked I is a beast and Joel Ortiz is really underrated. They're good performers. I enjoyed the show.

Real, I think I remember you saying that you were in Boston now, right? If so, try to go to a Mr. Lif show, easily the best show I've ever been to.

How was that GZA?

Shaun, I didn't end up going, even got offered a free ticket, but the wife was VERY convincing in getting me to stay home. Missed out, but I have plenty of other good ones coming up.

My last was Slipknot/Slayer, for the second time. Slayer still has it, well into their 50's.

To be honest, I've never been to a hip hop concert. To me, in a concert, everything should be live. Guys going on stage and rapping while pre-recorded beats play in the background just doesn't cut it for me.

There are plenty of hip hop shows with live instruments. The Deltron show I went to had a full band playing.

Dead Prez was tonight in Salt Lake City. I wish I could have gone to that one :(. Brother Ali is coming in October.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 27, 2012 8:21:57 PM PDT
Every live show I've seen with a Dan the Automator involvement had live instruments.

Same goes with Lyrics Born.

A customer says:
Anyone seen a show where an artist raps and plays an instrument at the same time? That would be impressive. Rapping and playing is without a doubt harder than singing and playing. Having done (tried) both, I can attest to that. Seriously, try rapping "The Real Slim Shady" while plucking the notes to its melody on a piano... in perfect time. The conflicting rhythms will trip over each other like their shoelaces were tied together.

Not hip hop but Carribean music. When I went home to Boston last month it was Carnival season and me and my girl went to see Machel Montano. Never listened to him before but the show was good.
