R. Barnes says:
The greatest of all-time rappers is a more debated topic but what about producers? What is your vote for the #1 producer or your top 10? Take into account not only the goodness of their productions, but their influence on those that came after.

In no particular order I would list:
RZA
Dre
Madlib
Pete Rock
Large Pro
Nikolay
Bomb Squad
j dilla
tribe called quest

yeah, I know this list is kinda east-coast centric, but some of you g-funk guys can suggest top producers of that sound.

Troublesome says:
One of my plans was to be a producer when I was younger, but I settled for the Marines instead but always follow great producers.

DJ Quik is my personal favorite producer. Pure genius.

RZA - What can you say about RZA.
Dr. Dre - Great producer, better at finding and promoting talent
J. Dilla - Creative and a risk taker with catchy melodies
Kanye West - great as a producer. Sucks as a rapper
Dj Premier - One of the reasons why I like east coast music.
Pete Rock - His beats tells a story without words
Mannie Fresh - got to give it to mannie. A south pioneer, just should have shut up on some of his records.
Daz Dillinger - A west coast legend and respected on many countries.
Scott Storch - Need a cliub banger?
Pharrell - Ahead of his time and un-orthadox and it works with rock and hip hop

what ever happened to Trackmasters? Marley Marl, Alchemist and Green eye bandit are honorable mentions.

surprised no one mentioned Johnny J... produced loads of songs for 2pac including "how do you want it" "all about you" "life goes on" and many more bangers, some good classics 'ish right there. probably not GOAT since he didn't broaden out much after pacs death but should still get a respectable mention. (r.i.p Johnny J)

with that said, my top 5 would probably be:
1. dr dre
2. el-p (as done tons of work for underground artist)
3. madlib (about equal with some of mf dooms own work)
4. havok (from mobb deep)
5. dj premier (naturally)

some honorable mentions:
dan the automator (done some awesome work for kool keith and deltron)
kanye west
timbaland
just blaze
marly marl
RZA (probably be up there in top 5)
